Бордо, Аркашон, дюна Пила, Лаканау, Сент-Эмильон, Блай
Бордо – красивый и уютный город с самой длинной торговой пешеходной улицей в Европе (Улица Сен-Катрин), архитектурой и богатой историей. В городе есть набережная реки Гаронны (Жиронды), где по вечерам собираются люди, чтобы попить вина, пообщаться, попеть песни. Самое главное – из Бордо можно доехать до океана и самой большой дюны в Европе.
До приезда Бордо для меня было названием вина. И еще в школе мы писали сочинение по “Горю от ума”, там был дядька из Бордо. Я особо ничего не понимала тогда, обозвала его “дядькой из борделя”, что мне потом, конечно, подчеркнули красным.
Личный опыт
Франция – довольно-таки дорогая страна Западной Европы, по сравнению с Испанией или Португалией. В Бордо самый дешевый хостел мне обошелся в 36 евро за ночь в 2018 году.
Походы в рестораны нужно планировать, так как они открываются в определенные часы.
Во многих городах, в том числе Бордо, бывают бесплатные экскурсии за чаевые. В Интернете вводишь Free walking tours … (название города), и появляются варианты. Лучше позвонить, уточнить, состоится ли экскурсия, иначе можно как я, проверить рано утром перед экскурсией и обнаружить, что она отменилась.
Я по городу передвигалась на трамвае. Можно еще арендовать велосипед.
Гуляла на набережной, пешком обошла центр города, площадь Кинконс (одна из самых больших площадей Европы, не впечатляет особо). Соборы, башни, административные здания… В воспоминаниях все слилось в одно – типичный красивый сказочный французский город.
Что запомнилось – пикник, когда стемнеет, у набережной. Летом в хорошую погоду видно луну и звезды. Багет-сыр-вино Бордо – обязательно включить в программу.
Куда я выезжала из города
От ж/д станции Бордо-Сен-Жан отходят поезда в Аркашон.
Аркашон – дюна Пила
Лучше бы выехать рано утром, билеты можно купить на станции в автомате. До Аркашона можно также доехать на автобусе, но это займет больше времени.
Аркашон – небольшой пляжный город, очень много туристов, среди них, как мне показалось, большинство – французы.
Из Аркашона садимся на автобус номер 1 прямо около ж/д станции и едем на дюну Пила – самую большую в Европе. Именно так ехать удобно. Я ехала до предыдущей станции до Аркашона, Teste de Buch, а потом на автобусе. Оттуда автобусы ходят редко, пришлось мне там погулять. Ты так не делай.
Итак, что такое дюна? Огромный холм из песка. Автобус едет вдоль этой дюны, поэтому можно высадиться в нескольких местах и все равно попасть на дюну (начиная с остановки Dune du Pila до конца любая подойдет).
Дюна расположена у океана. Тут вода теплее, так как дюна находится в бухте. Тут можно искупаться. Я помирала от засухи, обязательно возьмите воду и что-то перекусить.
Потом на том же автобусе в Аркашон.
В Аркашоне провести на пляже часок, вернуться в Бордо тем же поездом.
Лаканау
От ж/д станции Бордо-Сен-Жан (та же станция) отходит автобус 702. Лаканау – конечная. Очень красивое место, океан. Здесь много школ серферов. Я просто провела целый день на пляже, еду купила в супермаркете. Обратно вернулась тем же автобусом.
Сент-Эмильон
Небольшой городок, я бы сказала большая деревня, с виноградниками. Ландшафт этот является всемирным наследием.
Приехала я в Сент-Эмильон на поезде все с того же вокзала Бордо-Сен-Жан. Не стала покупать билет обратно, чтобы не привязывать себя ни к чему. И хорошо. Потому что на другом конце деревни нашла автобусную остановку, с которой поехала обратно в бордо в три раза дешевле.
Деревеньку можно обойти за час. Некоторые винодельни имеют открытый для посещения виноградный погреб (ближе к концу деревни). На тот момент я была простужена, поэтому дегустация вина мне не светила. Ты езжай туда здоровым и готовым насладиться вином. Тут еще водят экскурсии, наверное, интересно. Если после Бордо никуда еще ехать не надо, можно закупить несколько бутылок вина.
Блай
Если захочешь еще куда-то поехать, можно на автобусе 201 сгонять в деревеньку Блай (станция Bordeaux Buttiniere на севере города через реку). Здесь есть древний форт у реки. Можно походить в самой деревне, попить вина, походить по форту, вернуться тем же автобусом.

Bordeaux is a beautiful and cozy city with the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe (Rue Sainte-Catherine), stunning architecture, and a rich history. The city has a waterfront along the Garonne River (Gironde), where people gather in the evenings to drink wine, socialize, and sing songs. The best part is that from Bordeaux you can reach the ocean and the largest sand dune in Europe.
Before visiting, for me, Bordeaux was just the name of a wine. Also, back in school, we wrote an essay on *Woe from Wit*, and there was a character — a guy from Bordeaux. I didn't really understand anything at the time and called him "a guy from a brothel," which, of course, was underlined in red by my teacher.
Personal Experience
France is quite an expensive country in Western Europe compared to Spain or Portugal. In Bordeaux, the cheapest hostel cost me €36 per night back in 2018.
Going to restaurants requires planning, as they are only open at specific hours.
In many cities, including Bordeaux, there are free walking tours (tips-based). Just search online: "Free walking tours + [city name]" and options will appear. It's better to call ahead and confirm if the tour is happening — otherwise, like me, you might check early in the morning only to find that it's been canceled.
I got around the city by tram. You can also rent a bicycle.
I walked along the waterfront, explored the city center on foot, and visited Place des Quinconces (one of the largest squares in Europe — not particularly impressive, though). Cathedrals, towers, administrative buildings… In my memories, it all blends into one — a typical beautiful, fairytale-like French city.
What I remember most — a picnic after dark by the waterfront. In summer, when the weather is nice, you can see the moon and stars. Baguette, cheese, Bordeaux wine — definitely include this in your plans.
The Dune of Pilat

Trains to Arcachon depart from Bordeaux-Saint-Jean railway station.
Arcachon – Pilat Dune
It's better to leave early in the morning. Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines at the station. You can also take a bus to Arcachon, but it takes longer.
Arcachon is a small beach town, very crowded with tourists — mostly French, it seemed to me.
From Arcachon, take bus number 1 right near the train station to go to Pilat Dune — the largest sand dune in Europe. That's the most convenient way. I made the mistake of getting off at the previous station, Teste de Buch, and then taking the bus. Buses from there are infrequent, so I had to walk around. Don't do that.
So, what is the dune? A giant hill of sand. The bus runs along the dune, so you can get off at several points and still reach it (any stop from Dune du Pilat onward will work).
The dune is located by the ocean. The water here is warmer because the dune sits inside a bay. You can swim here. I was dying of thirst — definitely bring water and snacks.
Then take the same bus back to Arcachon.
Spend an hour on the beach in Arcachon, then return to Bordeaux on the same train.
Lacanau
From Bordeaux-Saint-Jean station (same station), take bus number 702. Lacanau is the final stop. A very beautiful place by the ocean. There are many surf schools here. I just spent the whole day on the beach and bought food at a supermarket. I returned on the same bus.
Saint-Émilion
A small town — I'd call it a large village — surrounded by vineyards. This landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I took a train to Saint-Émilion from the same Bordeaux-Saint-Jean station. I didn't buy a return ticket so I wouldn't be tied to a schedule. And that was a good decision, because on the other side of the village I found a bus stop and took a bus back to Bordeaux — three times cheaper.
You can walk around the village in an hour. Some wineries have wine cellars open to visitors (closer to the far end of the village). At that time, I had a cold, so wine tasting wasn't an option. You should go when you're healthy and ready to enjoy the wine. They also offer guided tours — probably interesting. If you're not traveling anywhere else after Bordeaux, you can buy a few bottles of wine here.
Blaye
If you feel like going somewhere else, you can take bus number 201 to the village of Blaye (departing from the Bordeaux Buttinière station in the northern part of the city, across the river). There's an ancient fort by the river. You can walk around the village, drink some wine, explore the fort, and return on the same bus.
