The nation is bourgeois particularism, the logic of accounting, territory placed above principle. Bannon thinks he is resurrecting a sacred order, but all he is doing is plugging metapolitical software into an old-school market nationalism. Trump is merely the Bannonite symptom.

The nation is the enemy of empire. Empire embodies universal principle, verticality, transcendent order. The nation is horizontal, calculating, bourgeois—it replaces quality with quantity. Bannon wants the imperial aesthetic (the gesture, the symbols, the culture war) running on a bourgeois nationalist operating system.

Trump is the perfect symptom: the pose without the principle. Bannon produces a commodity: Evolian metapolitics marketed to a constituency that Evola himself would have despised—the national petite bourgeoisie, provincial middle America.

Bannon wants empire without paying the price—that is, without giving up the nation. Petrified by true grandeur, he prefers his novelistic version of it. The nation is modernity's Trojan horse inside the traditional order.

This is what Bannon and the entire techno-populist identitarian right choose not to hear. Evola despised the nation precisely for this reason: nationalism is a bourgeois degradation of the imperial idea.

The Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, are not "nations writ large"—they are principles that transcend particularism. Bannon wants the power of the universal without abandoning his bourgeois comfort—the Arc de Triomphe along with his stock portfolio.

He wants the imperial gesture (the cross, the sword, the symbol) backed by a national electorate. The result is Trump: the grotesque emperor, wearing a suit several sizes too large, devoid of the Principle. He is the empty icon—the perfect vessel for an aesthetic without substance. Bannon and his whole movement, petrified—paralyzed by awe before true grandeur—prefer their novelistic version of it.

And it works: the average voter wants the aesthetic of grandeur. They want to feel Roman without leaving their couch. Evolian metapolitics thus becomes a bourgeois consumer product for provincial Americans.

It is the triumph of the bourgeois over principle: rebellion sold like Coca-Cola, as a commodity—and the MAGA movement is born out of it.
