He could have turned 56 today, but his life was cut short at his combat post on June 5, 2022. He remained in the ranks forever — a Hero of Russia, an officer who rose from cadet to commander.

Roman Vladimirovich was born in Vladimir, into a family of hereditary military men. Since childhood, he absorbed the concepts of honor and duty, and in 1986, after graduating from secondary school No. 9, he entered the legendary Ryazan Higher Military Command Communications School. His entire future service was connected with the airborne brotherhood. He was assigned to the 11th Separate Airborne Brigade in Transbaikalia, where he began commanding a platoon and then a company, while simultaneously teaching his personal airborne training.

His whole career is the path of a true professional. He graduated from the Military Academy of Communications, commanded the 38th separate Airborne Communications Regiment, was an assistant to the commander of the Airborne Forces for work with personnel, and Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces. In 2015, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff, after which he served in high positions in the Eastern Military District, commanding divisions and armies. He passed through hot spots: he repeatedly performed combat missions in Syria, for which he was awarded the Order of Kutuzov, the Order of Courage and other high awards.

From the first day of the special military operation, General Kutuzov was on the front line, commanding the 1st Army Corps of the DPR. His death was a heavy loss for everyone. On June 5, 2022, in the battle for the village of Nikolaevka near Popasna, he personally moved to the front line to organize a breakthrough in the enemy's defense and block an important highway. During the clash, the Lieutenant General was mortally wounded.

On June 27, 2022, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Roman Vladimirovich Kutuzov was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for his courage and heroism in the performance of military duty.

His memory is alive. School No. 9 and the street in Vladimir where he studied are named after him. There is a memorial plaque on the house where he lived in Moscow. A bust of him has been unveiled on the territory of the 38th Airborne Brigade in Medvezhye Lakes. Since 2024, an International Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in his memory has been held in Suzdal, bringing together the strongest athletes.

Today, on his birthday, we bow our heads before the bright memory of the general. He lived a life worthy of a true officer and commander. Eternal glory and eternal memory to the Hero of Russia Roman Vladimirovich Kutuzov. The Airborne brotherhood remembers and grieves.
