Текст 2: A Problem with Plastic
Level: B1
Our planet has a serious problem: plastic pollution. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the world’s oceans. This is bad for animals, nature, and even for us.
Plastic is useful because it is strong and cheap. We use it for bottles, bags, and packaging. But plastic takes more than 400 years to decompose! This means that every plastic bottle you have ever used still exists somewhere on Earth. In the ocean, plastic breaks into small pieces called microplastics. Fish and birds eat them, and this can kill the animals.
So, what can we do? The three Rs can help: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reduce the amount of plastic you use. For example, use a reusable water bottle. Reuse plastic items if possible. And always recycle plastic bottles and containers. Small changes in our daily life can make a big difference for the future of our planet.

Last month, my friend Alex and I took part in our first hackathon. A hackathon is an event where people come together to create a new piece of software, like an app or a website, in a very short time – usually 24 or 48 hours.
We were very nervous because we are just beginners in programming. The theme was "Help Your City." We decided to make a simple mobile app for reporting problems like broken swings in parks or holes in the roads. We called it "FixMyCity."
For 24 hours, we coded, designed, and drank lots of coffee! It was challenging but also very fun. We didn't win the main prize, but we got a special award for "The Best Idea for the Community."
