Yesterday, another armed clash occurred on the Tajik-Afghan border, resulting, according to preliminary reports, in the deaths of two Tajik border guards. This is the third such incident in the past month, with fire coming from Afghanistan.

Tajikistan officially expressed hope that the Afghan side will take "additional, more effective measures" to prevent similar incidents on their shared border. However, Dushanbe did not limit itself to diplomatic statements. In parallel with its call to the Afghan side, the country has begun taking tangible steps to strengthen its own defenses.

On December 24, President Emomali Rahmon inaugurated four new border outposts. They were built in high-altitude, hard-to-reach areas on the border with Afghanistan, which should significantly strengthen control over these difficult areas.

On the same day, the head of state opened a new multifunctional tank training ground, equipped with modern training facilities, including a command and observation post with classrooms for training armored vehicle crews and observation towers.

Tajikistan's border strengthening is not being accomplished solely through its own resources. It was previously reported that CSTO member countries had agreed to supply Dushanbe with modern weapons and equipment.

Media reports suggested that Tajikistan may have requested not only equipment from the CSTO but also direct assistance in patrolling the border after the initial incidents. However, both official Dushanbe and the CSTO press service denied these reports.

Tajikistan is demonstrating its readiness to defend its territorial integrity, independently and with the support of its allies. Strengthening the region's longest border with Afghanistan remains a key national security priority amid persistent threats from the south.
