The Story
Once upon a time, in the cold sky, a little snowflake was born. She came from a small droplet of water. The droplet rose from the earth, cooled down, and crystallized around a bit of dust.
«Hello!» the snowflake whispered. She was very happy. «I am new! I am unique! No other snowflake is like me!»
She looked at her arms. They were delicate. The patterns on them were intricate. They sparkled in the moonlight.
The snowflake saw other snowflakes. They were beautiful too.
«Where are we going?» she asked an elder snowflake.
«We are going to the earth,» the elder said. «It is a magical place. Some snowflakes will land on trees. Some will land on rooftops. Others will land on children’s cheeks. Children look up and wish on falling snow.»
The little snowflake felt excited. «Will I melt?» she asked.
«Yes, eventually,» said the elder. «But you will bring joy and beauty. You will be part of a winter landscape. Maybe a child will catch you on a mitten and marvel at your perfect shape. Then you will become a drop of water. The drop will return to the earth. Later, you will rise again and be a snowflake!»
The snowflake drifted down. She saw the world below. It was a winter wonderland! Trees had white coats. Fields had soft blankets. Rooftops looked like icing on cakes.
Soon, the snowflake landed on a child’s nose. The girl looked up. She smiled.
«Oh, what a beautiful snowflake!» she exclaimed.
For a moment, the snowflake was there. She saw the girl’s rosy cheeks and bright smile.
Then the snowflake melted. She became a tiny drop. But she was not sad. She knew her journey would continue. She brought joy. She was part of a winter tale.
