🇰🇿🇷🇺 The President of Kazakhstan received the rector of MGIMO Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Anatoly Torkunov, rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. The President of Kazakhstan spoke highly of MGIMO's reputation for training highly qualified international specialists. He also welcomed the opening of an MGIMO branch at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, where the first 100 students have already begun their studies. At the end of the meeting, the Head of State expressed his confidence that the common desire of the academic communities of Kazakhstan and Russia for fruitful cooperation will contribute to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries. The branch offers two bachelor's degree programs (4 years, taught in Russian with an English component).

Two areas of focus:

1. International relations (includes mandatory internships at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan)

2. International law (WTO law, Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) regulation, investment arbitration. The launch of a master's program in global studies (in English) is planned for 2026.

Strategic goals:

⏺Train more than 500 diplomats and international specialists for Kazakhstan by 2030.

⏺Strengthen the EAEU and SCO expert networks.

⏺Position Astana as a regional center for Russian-language international education

“This is MGIMO's first full-fledged branch abroad — a model for future expansion in friendly countries.”

In 2026, it is planned to launch a leadership training program for Kazakhstani civil servants

In 2027, it is planned to open an EAEU digital economy research center
