Дорогие друзья! Продолжаем рубрику подготовки к ЕГЭ по английскому с ученым котом. Сегодня предложим вашему вниманию разбор возможного варианта задания о праздновании Великого Праздника - Дня Победы. Hello Max, it’s me. I will send you some photographs as soon as my computer is repaired.

• explain the choice of the illustrations for the project by briefly describing them and noting the differences;

I believe they suit our project ,,Victory Day’’ in the best possible way as both of them are devoted to this topic. In the first picture, we can see numerous children laying carnations at the eternal flame in a place that looks like a memorial to fallen soldiers. The second picture shows two war veterans decorated with medals, sitting in the hall of a public building. They are holding roses and are surrounded by other people.

The main distinction between the pictures lies in the fact that they present different ways of celebrating Victory Day. In the picture on the top, we can see a commemorative ceremony, whereas the picture on the bottom presents honouring living war veterans.

• mention the advantages (1–2) of the two ways of celebrating Victory Day;

To my mind, both ways of celebrating Victory Day have their benefits and shortcomings. Looking on the bright side, memorial ceremonies create an atmosphere of solemnity and unite millions of people in gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives fighting for their homeland. Congratulating living veterans, in turn, allows the younger generation to learn about the heroic deeds of our soldiers during the Great Patriotic War from the mouth of those who fought on the front line.

• mention the disadvantages (1–2) of the two ways of celebrating Victory Day;

On the other hand, it is undeniable that some people take part in commemorative ceremonies just for show, which points to the lack of their civic consciousness. As regards honouring living veterans, unfortunately most of them are no longer able to participate in public events in view of their advanced age.

• express your opinion on the subject of the project – which way of celebrating Victory Day you prefer, and why.

Though both ways of celebrating Victory Day are praiseworthy, I personally prefer congratulating living war veterans. The thing is, there are only about seven thousand of them left in Russia, so it is extremely important to surround them with special care – whether at public events or by visiting them at home – to make sure that none of them is left without attention.

Please call me back as soon as you receive the pictures.
