The Okapi: A Special Animal of the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country in Africa. It’s known for its rainforests and amazing animals. One very special animal that lives there is the Okapi. The Okapi is used a lot as a symbol of the Democratic republic of Congo You see it everywhere! So, it’s like a national symbol, even without official words The Okapi is a mammal. It’s a member of the giraffe family. It has zebra-like stripes on its legs and a dark, velvety coat. Okapi are special for a few reasons: 1) They are rare.  Okapi are only found in the rainforests of the Democratic republic of Congo. 2) Unique look. The stripes help them hide in the shadows of the forest. 3) Long tongues.
