Philippe Blanchard on Sochi’s Olympic Legacy – following his keynote at the RIOU Conference
In February, RIOU hosted its annual international conference, bringing together leading voices in sports management and legacy planning. Among the key speakers was Philippe Blanchard, Founder & CEO of Futurous (France), whose deep expertise and visionary approach left a strong impression on attendees. As a former Senior Advisor to Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy for Expo 2020 Dubai and a former Director at the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Blanchard brought a global and strategic view to the discussions.
His keynote focused on the long-term legacy of the Olympic Games and how mega-events can serve as platforms for transformation. Drawing on his experience and research, he emphasized that legacy should not be seen as a byproduct, but as a carefully curated outcome of clear vision and governance. The conference became a space for open dialogue about the challenges and opportunities of managing sports legacies in today’s rapidly changing world.
Following the event, Mr. Blanchard published an article on LinkedIn titled “Sochi 2025: the 2014 legacy”, where he reflects on Sochi’s evolution since the 2014 Winter Olympics. In the article, he describes Sochi as “a laboratory of our tomorrow,” highlighting its role as a symbol of bold ambition and transformation.
Importantly, the article was co-authored with Olga Pokushalova, underlining the collaborative spirit fostered during the conference and the valuable contributions of RIOU experts to the global sports discourse.
