Hello everybody! In the first part of Brian Jones's loves and hates, we were reading about things which he liked. But before we start, let's remember some new words and phrases from the previous article.
*Detest— synonym for hate. When something makes you disgusted.
*There's nothing like someone or something — This is an idiom from British english which means that particular thing can't be better than anything else.
*After all — Like in the end (Don't confuse it with at the end, when you use "at the end" it can mean at the end of a day).
*Braw laddies — It's a dialect word from the Scottish language. This phrase has the same meaning like you say "He's a great man". Here Brian mentioned that in Scotland he had met very good people.
*Cut down on the amount — Do something not for a long time, not few times a day.
*Showbiz — show business.
*Despite — Not look at something. Like whenever people say.
*Contrary — The synonym for against.
*Tops with us — Like the most unforgettable.

travelling by public transport. It's the worst torture thought up by society.
*Torture —In this case Brian meant that places like buses were the cause of his discomfort. But the main sense of torture when someone harms you physically.
*Thought up — Make up something in your mind.
intolerance of any sort. Everybody has a right to his own opinion.
Civil servants.
*Civil servants — In brief it's the name of government employees.
people who have a different "face" for the public. Usually rats underneath.
the way the Press twist things about the group when they think we're too difficult to get at. The Beatles are suffering the same way.
*Twist — In general it has a lot of meanings. But here it's like to tell a lie.
*Get at — phrasal verb. The same as get closer.
when I think the group plays badly.
rule books.
*Rule — Something that you need to do or not to do in particular place.
parties that are spoiled by stupid drunkeness. No need for it!
*Spoil — To ruin something.
shouts of "Get yer hair cut!" Give me one good reason why we should!
*Yer — The same as your.
the way most British people regard food. Mince and spuds aren't everything, you know!
*Regard — to pay your attention
*Mince — In Russian it's "фарш", I'm sorry, I don't even know how to explain it in English.
*Spuds — the same as potato.
racial prejudice. 'Nuff said!
*Racial prejudice — When someone starts to judge a person because of his nation.
*Prejudice — Standards.
*Nuff said — When it's nothing more to say.
