Volleyball
Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world. This game was invented at the end of the 19th century and has gained love millions of people around the world. This game is played by men's and women's teams. There are also a huge number of competitions among children's and teenage's teams.
In volleyball, players are divided into two teams of six. And there are also substitute players. According to the official rules, the game has three rounds, in each of which you can score 25 points. However, unofficial championships are often played to 5 points. Points are awarded if the ball touches the ground, if there was an unsuccessful serve, for example, into the net or ball went out. What is more one player can't touch the ball twice and step on half of the opponents.
Volleyball, first of all, is good because it doesn't require special equipment. All amateur players need is a net and a ball. Therefore, volleyball can be played anywhere, even on the beach. But professional volleyball players also need the right shoes that secure their feet well, as well as knee pads and gaiters.
In addition to classic volleyball, there is also beach volleyball (on the sand), snow volleyball (on the snow cover), tekvoli (on a curved table), bossaball (trampoline game).
William Morgan, a physical education teacher at an American college, is considered the founder of volleyball. He called his game mintonet. Later, the game was renamed to volleyball as we know it now, and rules were added in the form of the height of the net, the size of the field, the number of players and etc. The basic rules of the game were formed by 1925, and in 1964 it became a discipline in the Olympic Games.
The largest championship in the discipline of volleyball is the Olympic Games, in which both women's and men's teams take part.
Also prestigious championships are the World Cup, the European Championship and the League of Nations.
Serbia, Netherlands, Brazil, Cuba and Russia most often occupy leading positions in all volleyball championships. Currently, more than 33 million people play volleyball.
