Apparently, my energy increases in spring. So, in April next year, I started working as a courier. Background: final year of university, thesis not even started, and my relationship with my then-girlfriend deteriorated beyond repair. I decided to put my energy into some work again. I was actively using the hh website, so I think I found the new organization through this site.
Courier
I think I took this position because it seemed simple to me. I just had to walk to organizations and deliver documents for signing. Then, return to the office and submit the documents. I had my interview at a design department on Vavilov Street. But the main office was located between Kievskaya and Frunzenskaya metro stations, on the embankment. I think these were two different companies wanting to hire one courier to save money. The salary was below average. Sometimes it was even delayed. But to their credit, my employer officially employed me, even making me a work book, which I didn't have at that time.
Walks
I indeed had to walk a lot. The job was sometimes exhausting. I had to visit the same addresses and offices repeatedly. My job was to deliver accounting documents to all organizations served by our company as an internet provider and supplier. Most of these organizations were in the same building as my office. Other organizations, where I had to deliver documents for signing, could be located anywhere in Moscow. Of course, most were near the office. But there were also those that could be at the Marina Roscha metro station, for example. I also had to deliver many documents to the building where the design department was based, which was in a very inaccessible place, somewhere between the Universitet and Profsoyuznaya metro stations.
Office Tower
It was a tall standalone building with many offices. Likely, these guys managed to get some of these organizations on their internet, and I had to visit almost the entire building to get signatures from almost all these organizations. So, I continued to work. Sometimes I even took my girlfriend on my routes, and we walked together a bit. We had extremely tense relations then, and we tried to do something about it. But nothing worked.
Antiquarians
What do I remember? I remember how some employees, to whom I brought documents, behaved very strangely. It was some old items shop. Apparently, antiquarians. When I came to their office, a young woman asked me in a cold and stern tone to stay at the door and not go further into the office. It somewhat embarrassed me. She seemed to try to demonstrate her imaginary superiority. Nevertheless, she didn't hear a single word from me. I honestly did my job.
Pros and Cons
Still, there were some advantages to this job. I could walk along the embankment, where the main office was located. I could enter business centers, visit some offices. I interacted with different people and saw different districts of Moscow. Once, my salary was delayed. The money was paid specifically in the design department. And these guys were not in a hurry to give me my salary. Only when I told about it in the main office, they could influence that the money reached me.
Model
Once, while I was delivering documents to the office where the design department was located, I met an interesting lady who introduced herself as a fashion designer. First, she offered me to distribute invitations to her clients. I agreed and even received a small amount for this job. Then, when I saw her again, she offered me to participate in a fashion show. I agreed and became a participant in the fashion show. The show took place in Gostiny Dvor. It was the most unusual experience in my life. I was very nervous but managed to overcome my fear and performed on the catwalk. Results At some point, the tension from this job became simply unbearable. I peacefully parted ways with the employer and took up my own business.
What skills was I able to develop?
1. Physical endurance: Many walks and trips across Moscow required good physical preparation.
2. City navigation: The job helped me better navigate various districts of Moscow, as I had to visit diverse offices and organizations.
3. Communication skills: Interacting with different people, including strange employees of the antique shop and the fashion designer, improved my communication skills.
4. Professionalism and responsibility: I learned to perform my duties regardless of external circumstances and salary payment problems.
5. Self-confidence and public performance: Participating in the fashion show took my ability to perform in front of an audience to a new level, allowing me to overcome nervousness and perform on the catwalk.
This period of work showed how diverse experience can contribute to personal growth and the development of various skills.
