1. In withdrawal - the period of time when somebody is getting used to not taking a drug that they have become addicted to, and the unpleasant effects of doing this (ломка)
Examples: I got withdrawal symptoms after giving up smoking.
2. Blizzard - a snowstorm with very strong winds (метель, пурга)
Examples: The blizzard struck the north-east yesterday, causing serious damage. It's cold and a blizzard makes the road seem longer.
3. Howling – (of a storm, etc.) very violent, with strong winds (вой, рев)
Examples: Howling is a means of communication in timber wolves.
Useful expression: howling success
4. Crash with – to stay for a night (переночевать)
Examples: I might need to crash with you for a couple of nights. I think Amy said we could crash with her if we ever came out to California.
5. Take in - to allow somebody to stay in your home (принимать, приютить) Examples: He was homeless, so we took him in.
6. Bankroll somebody/something- (informal) to support somebody/something by giving money (финансировать)
Examples: They claimed his campaign had been bankrolled with drug money. Our team here try to bankroll your pet projects.
7. Bogus - pretending to be real or true (фиктивный, фальшивый)
Examples: Bogus "brand-name" products are fairly common. The dinosaur bones turned out to be bogus.
8. Be suspended - to officially prevent somebody from doing their job, going to school, etc. for a time, as a punishment or while a complaint against them is investigated (быть отстраненным)
Examples: The police officer was suspended while the complaint was investigated.
9. Be exiled - to force somebody to leave their country, especially for political reasons or as a punishment (изгнанный, высланный)
to send somebody into exile
Examples: He was exiled to Siberia.
10. Shack - a small building, usually made of wood or metal, that has not been built well (хижина, лачуга)
Examples: The settlement consists only of shacks; there are no roads, no water, no street lighting.
