The internet is a good place to be. We use the internet for many things, such as studying, communicating or just having some fun. But there is also the flip side of this gold medal, showing the darkest and most unacceptable things that can cripple the psyche, break morally or kill you altogether. And one of those things is cyberbullying.
Bullying itself is a very common occurrence. People have been exposed to trauma even back in the days before the internet. Just like now, people are ridiculed for completely different reasons. These could be a different race, a different nationality, gender, age, body structure, your parents' position in society, or the absence of a parent. But with cyberbullying, it's more confusing and insignificant. After all, the cyberbullies don't even know the individual personally. That is why they do not notice that they can ruin a person's mental health with a single phrase, expression, or even a word.
Just remember the cases of former One Direction member Zayn Malik, who was humiliated because of his Pakistani origin, or singer Selena Gomez, who can't access her own Instagram because of angry comments.
So why shouldn't people do this kind of nasty stuff? For this, let's take a quote from British singer Demi Lovato. It sounds like this: "I think some people use bullying as a way to assert themselves. The internet gives people a sense of anonymity, but everyone should realise that words, even the ones they write online, can hurt people". This makes it seem that people who try to assert themselves through bullying hate themselves and vent their hatred on the people around them. A kind of chain reaction based on hatred - a person who hates himself lets his hatred on another person, and this person starts to accumulate this hatred to himself and no longer pours it out on others, but gets rid of it by isolation, self-harm and other scary things.
Cyberbullying is very important to report in advance. Of course, you don't have to inform your family of every laugh you get, but you also don't have to put up with having your personal details leaked and constant ridicule from people you've never even met in person. Cyberbullying needs to be tackled at its inception. That is, if your videos or photos taken without humorous overtones are ridiculed, don't hesitate to file a report against the bullies.
So what sources should you turn to if you haven't received good advice from family members? It is better to work through such problems with a good and, most importantly, professional psychologist, so that he can analyse the problem and tell you how to solve it.
But it will be best if you find information on trusted sources that you can easily use. For example, psychological websites, which are run by psychologists with a lot of experience. They will tell you exactly what to do and how to protect yourself from other people's hatred.
Stop hating yourself because of someone's words! Look at life from a different angle!
