It was the main kind of martial arts in the USSR. It was based on judo. Vasily Oshchepkov - is one of people who formed sambo. He developed judo in the Use too. First sambo championship was in Leningrad in 1939. The first champion was Andrey Budzinsky. His coaches were Oshchepkov and Anatoly Kharlampiev. Later, people started to divide sambo to sport sambo and combat sambo. All of people can learn sport sambo and only police or army people can learn combat sambo. Because in combat sambo there are many techniques that people mustn't use in sport sambo. To do sambo you need special equipment. You need special jacket. You need special shorts.
