Urinary incontinence in women: causes and risk factors.

Оглавление

The most important thing in relation to women suffering from urinary incontinence is to conduct the correct differential diagnosis of both true and false incontinence, as well as various forms of true urinary incontinence; since the mechanism of development of the disease is different and the methods of treatment are also different. Treatment of false urinary incontinence involves the elimination of an anatomical congenital or acquired defect. Failure to identify this defect and classify the patient as a group of patients with true urinary incontinence will not lead to the desired positive success of treatment.

Causes of occurrence.

It may be associated with congenital or acquired defects of the ureter, bladder or urethra. Acquired defects leading to false urinary incontinence are usually associated with trauma, as a result of which the integrity of the urinary tract is violated. True urinary incontinence occurs with spinal cord injuries, spinal hernia, advanced cystitis, complicated by wrinkling of the bladder. It may appear with a change in body position, physical activity of varying degrees of severity.

Predisposing risk factors.

  • Race – urinary incontinence is much more common in white women than in African-American and Asian women.
  • Heredity – women whose mothers or older sisters have symptoms of urinary incontinence are most often affected by this disease.
  • Neurological disorders – brain or spinal cord injuries, strokes, brain infarctions,
  • Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, polio, peripheral nervous system disorders during pelvic surgery and other diseases can lead to urinary incontinence.

Obstetric and gynecological factors

  • Pregnancy.
  • Childbirth – delivery through the natural birth canal, episiotomy, instrumental delivery, fetal weight of more than 4 kg lead to the development of urinary incontinence due to damage to the pelvic floor muscles and impaired nerve conduction of the pelvic organs.
  • Underwent surgery on the pelvic organs and radiation therapy.
  • Pelvic organ prolapse.

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary discharge of urine from the external opening of the urethra. Occurs if the pressure in the bladder is higher than the pressure inside the urethra. Urinary incontinence, one of the most common urological diseases in women. According to the results of domestic studies, about 38.6% of women report symptoms of this disease.
