Discussing the project Protecting The Environment

Hi Peter,

I’m sending you my voice message because I couldn’t get through to you all day. I can’t help sharing an impressive piece of news with you. I have found two illustrative photographs for our collaborative project Protecting The Environment. Unfortunately, for some technical hitches I can't send you these pictures at the moment. But I’m willing to describe them briefly.

I hope you will like my choice because the images show two different types of protecting the environment. Now let me give you some details and point out some differences . In Picture 1, there are 8 young people on a beach. They are dressed similarly in black t-shirts with the printed inscriptions saying “Volunteer” on each. This team of environmental volunteers are picking up rubbish left by irresponsible holidaymakers and putting it into plastic bags in order to prevent this rubbish from contaminating the natural reservoir. In contrast to the team work, the scene in Picture 2 is calling our attention to an individual, a young girl in casual clothes and a french straw hat. She is standing in front of a set of city recycling containers designed for sorting various kinds of waste. Now she is lifting a lid of one of the trash bins with her right hand, while putting an empty plastic bottle into it with her left hand.

Peter, now I’d like to draw your attention to some obvious advantages of these two types of protecting our environment. For instance Picture 1 inspires love of nature in people and teaches to promote responsibility for the environment. Similarly, Picture 2 encourages individuals to do the proper recycling to live in clean places.

However, It’s worth mentioning some disadvantages of these two types of protecting the environment. For example, collecting rubbish near bodies of water is a hard job whose results depend on weather conditions which can affect volunteers' health. Also, I must admit that there are not enough recycling containers in the walking vicinity in some cities. With this, we can see heaps of rubbish misplaced around fully packed litter bins.

As for me, I prefer to recycle household waste by separating organic from inorganic rubbish and putting it into different bags and then taking them to a local recycling point. I always feel satisfied by the fact of having done a good deed for a day.
