The United Nations said thousands of Gazans stormed the organization's warehouses and distribution centers to get flour and other necessities.
The United Nations agency in charge of Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said today that wheat, flour and other essential goods were robbed at some of its warehouses.
"This is a worrying sign that civil order is starting to break down after three weeks of fighting and the blockade of the Gaza Strip," said Thomas White, UNRWA official.
One of the warehouses located in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, is where UNRWA stores supplies from humanitarian convoys entering Gaza from Egypt.
"Market supplies are running out, while humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip by truck from Egypt is insufficient," UNRWA said. "The needs of the community are great, while the aid we receive is very meager and irregular."
According to UNRWA, its ability to help people in Gaza is limited due to raids that have killed more than 50 of its staff and made it difficult to move supplies.
Israel has completely blockaded Gaza since October 7. Aid convoys have been allowed to enter Gaza through the border gate with Egypt since October 21, but the number is very limited, causing the United Nations to describe it as "a drop in the bucket". Gazans are lacking food, water, fuel and medicine. More than 8,000 people here have died since the fighting broke out.
European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell on October 29 called for a "temporary pause in hostilities" to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
"UNRWA warns of the desperate situation of the people of Gaza without electricity, food, or drinking water. Too many civilians, including children, have died. This is contrary to International Humanitarian Law," he said. "A pause in hostilities is absolutely necessary to facilitate humanitarian access."
Mr. Borrell also condemned all attacks against civilians, "including continuing indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israel", calling for the "immediate and unconditional release of all hostages" being held. in Gaza.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said today that Israel wants to "increase the level of urgency" in warning Gaza civilians in the north to relocate to the south, when the army is "transitioning to the next phase" of the war with Hamas and "expanding the scope of operations".
"People in northern Gaza and Gaza City should temporarily relocate to southern Wadi Gaza to a safer area where they can receive water, food and medicine," Hagari said.
According to him, humanitarian efforts towards Gaza led by the US and Egypt will be expanded on October 30.
"Israel is participating in a war that we did not initiate and do not want to happen. Israel's war is with Hamas , not with the people of Gaza," Hagari added, accusing Hamas of using the people Gaza as a "human shield".
The IDF said its fighters attacked about 450 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, including centers, guard posts and anti-tank missile launch sites. The army also expanded its ground operations in the Gaza Strip overnight, sending reinforcements into the area.
An IDF officer was seriously injured by mortar fire and a soldier was slightly injured in a gunfight with Hamas, both in the northern Gaza Strip overnight.
