Parents often notice that their child can not concentrate on the one thing for a long time. Child may become just forgetful or increase his motor activity. Usually this behavior is typical for preschool and school-age children and is harmless. However, these symptoms may be a sign of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and they should be treated at an early stage. Otherwise, it can affect many aspects of learning and life in the future.
Absent–mindedness - is a reduced ability to perform purposeful activities. In simple words, absent-mindedness is understood as a violation of concentration. The disorder is manifested by forgetfulness and inattention. This may be an individual personality trait, a symptom of an illness or a temporary state of fatigue.
"According to my survey at school, only 31% of students answered that they are diligent and attentive. The rest said they were distracted by their parents, younger siblings, pets, talking on the phone and the loud sound of the TV." - pointed out family psychologist Inna Kireeva.
What to do when you realize this problem with your child?
It is necessary to make sure that the child has a syndrome of distracted attention, because restlessness and activity are inherent in many healthy children. Symptoms directly depend on the nature and age of the child, the environment of his existence and the rules of behavior in the family, as well as on the severity of the disorder itself.
"There can be many reasons for absent-mindedness. And not so much the hyperactivity of the child, as large physical and emotional loads, overwork, insufficient sleep, lack of fresh air. At the end, a student may just be bored, because teachers present information in different ways, and you only need to choose and remember useful information - this, in fact, is mindfulness." - confirmed Inna Kireeva.
The first and perhaps most important thing is a visit to a psychotherapist. Only he will be able to choose the right treatment. Nevertheless, a multifaceted strategy is required to tackle this serious disease. It comprises professional medical consultations and pharmacological therapy, rigorous adherence to a defined daily schedule, required lessons with a psychologist, suitable parenting practises utilised by parents, and a reasonable allocation of mental and physical demands.
Here it is worth dwelling on the daily routine in more detail.
In order to instill disciplinary skills and adjust behavior in such children, it is impossible to do without a strict regime. The daily routine should be drawn up clearly and, if possible, colorfully, it can be printed and hung in plain sight, for example, above the bed. A meal should definitely be prescribed. The meal should be compiled and include all the necessary products to provide the young body with the right amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water.
"It is necessary to leave a couple of hours in the afternoon and evening for free time, during which the child can do his favorite things or attend sections." - states Inna.
More precisely, it is necessary to consult with a psychologist. The specialist has techniques, techniques and programs aimed at eliminating increased emotionality and impulsivity. The psychologist tests the child's behavior and, based on the information received, gives him advice on how to behave correctly.
"Yet, the most important thing I would like to note is that in no case should you scold a child and use physical force for this violation of health. Also, to take the syndrome of distracted attention for a bad, unmanageable character and rebelliousness, which is why they are trying to "re-educate" their child with incorrect and even harmful methods." - finished psychologist Inna Kireeva
Summing up, I would like to emphasize once again that this problem is very important. Thus, if you do not deal with this problem, then the future of such children can be turned to almost hopeless.
