Have you ever been scammed?

Dear Diary,

It's incumbent upon us to be cautious, especially in the era of cutting-edge technologies pervasively penetrating into our lives for good. Nowadays scams of all sorts gather speed.

Before I tell you about a story that happened to me today, I'll introduce you some vocabulary over one man's confession to being scammed.

Here you go with this file.

My own story

After lunch I felt that I was dragged into sleep. So I went upstairs to have a nap for a couple of hours. But less than an hour later I was tinkled over the WhatsApp messenger. It was an unknown caller. But, instead of redirecting him to the auto-reply option, I answered his call. The man voiced my full name, at which point I got confused. 'How did he know my full name?' Flashed across my mind. I remained silent. He went on to introduce himself as an inspector of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow. Agree, it sounds serious, doesn't it? I kept silent, which drew him angry. He repeated his question whether it was me or not in an irritated manner. At that, I merely addressed him with the question, rather sarcastic than with an air of fear: 'What prison do you call me from?' As he didn't answer, I added: 'Do you know where are you placing your call to?'; at which, he stupidly re-asked: "Where?". I said maliciously: 'To the Investigative Committee'. Honestly, I was expecting he would hang up, but he didn't. Instead, he went on and on, introducing himself again - now in a very powerful manner, pressing on my nerves until I turned off my phone dead.

Of course, I didn't believe him because I receive numerous calls like this one, from pretend bank assistants, stomatologists, real estate agents etc almost everyday. But this call was really irritating. I'd decided to
get it out off my chest and I rung up the police. A female officer on her duties took my words seriously. She checked out the police-directory-number database and told me that I was contacted by a scammer. She also encouraged me to address her further in case I would have any other problems. How considerate it was of her!

Now I'm happy that finally everything has been
sorted out.
