Yesterday got around to a nobody-would-remain-indifferent film called Small Things Like These.
The plot is going through the 20th cen story of Magdalene Laundries (shelters). They were quite common in England and Ireland as well America and Australia at that time.
These places were created for ‘fallen women’ with a purpose of re-education and rehabilitation.
Typically women who worked as prostitutes or who were vulnerable to turning to prostitution due to poverty were the main goal for these shelters.
And that would be so decent if not for ‘small things’ the shelters kept.
The film sheds light on female victims of the convents with a particular emphasis on personal involvement. And the way it does it, makes you feel completely engrossed.
