Доброго времени суток, уважаемый посетитель, нашего, пока еще скромного, боулинг клаба, с вами научная кегля. Autumn has set in- пришла осень. По сему хочется поделиться с вами seasonal vocabulary. Hopefully, this article will be interesting and useful. Now, let’s get to the point.
Probably, для многих осень, в первую очередь, связана с листвой, соленьями, сборами урожая и other autumn-related stuff.
In English it would sound like this
Листва– leaves or foliage . Ex – leaves go brown, red and yellow in autumn.
Соленья– pickles. Ex- my grandmother’s pickles are the best.
Собирать урожай – reap, harvest or gather in. You reap as (what) you sow (idiom) - что посеешь ,то и пожнешь.
Урожай – harvest or crops .Harvest time is a very busy and responsible period for all farmers.
Dead or bleak colours of autumn – мертвые, блеклые краски осени . Ex – It is widely believed that bleak colours of autumn are one of the reasons for depression.
Hibernation (warning – an advanced and formal word ) – спячка . A lot of animals start to prepare for winter hibernation in autumn.
Knitting – вязание. Interestingly, many people decide to take up knitting in autumn. Take up – discover a new hobby.
Gild – золотить, покрывать золотом ( как в прямом, так и в переносном смысле ) Ex – I don’t understand why so many people dislike autumn ,just look at the gilded (позолоченные) tops of the trees, autumn is such a colourful season.
