Richard Dawkins - was the first person which started to use this word. It was in 1976 year. He used this word in his book "The Selfish Gene."
First memes
Memes are very old. Some of them were in Ancient Rome, but it more were anecdotes, than memes. Population of Ancient Rome were having fun from pictures or verses.
The first real meme was made in 1921 year. It was similar to our memes (waiting/reality).
