A Hotel Made of Ice and Snow
Do you like traveling in winter? Do you enjoy skiing or other winter sports? Do you love adventure? If you do, there's a special place that may be interesting to you!
Check out this article about Ice Hotel
In December 2016, a permanent ice hotel was opened in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, that is 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. It is now open all year round, which means you can sleep in an igloo not only in winter, but also in the middle of summer! Would you like to try that?
The hotel is a 2,100 square meter construction made of real ice and snow. When you enter the hotel lobby to check in, you can see that walls, ceiling, stairs, floors, and everything inside the hotel is made of ice. It looks absolutely beautiful! Both children and adults can feel like characters from Disney movies set in a frozen world. The hotel offers nine deluxe suites with a private sauna and bathroom in each suite, plus 11 art suites. The art suites are full of original sculptures made by selected artists from around the globe. There is also a large ice bar that serves champagne, and an ice gallery. Even glasses in the bar are made of ice!
It is interesting that the ice does not melt. How is that so? Solar panels cool the hotel during the summer months. The building keeps the temperature of approximately -5 degrees Celsius (23° F). This temperature preserves the ice and snow sculptures and it is also a comfortable climate. The snowy insulation makes the place very quiet. However, if you want to enjoy your stay, you need to prepare well. You need warm clothing. The hotel staff recommends wearing three layers of clothes: a base layer, mid layer, and outer layer. But how can one sleep in such low temperatures? Each guest receives a special sleeping bag. The sleeping bags are made for temperatures as low as -25° C (-13° F). Also, there is a 'survival course' organized every evening at the hotel.
When you wake up in the morning, you get a glass of hot lingonberry juice. After a morning sauna and a big buffet breakfast, you are ready to start a day filled with winter adventures, like dog sledding, fishing, horse riding, or you can also rent sports equipment and do your favorite sport. You can also become an artist and try ice sculpting. Isn't it fascinating?
Have you seen James Bond movies? Do you like them? Who is your favorite James Bond? Would you like to stay at the same ice hotel as him? Why? Why not? Describe his hotel room and an ice bar, what is he wearing ?
