Are You Sabotaging Your Own Job Search?

The job interview is not a pass/fail test. It's a conversation between two people - that's all.

Self-Test: Are You Sabotaging Your Own Job Search?

Answer each question honestly. No one is grading you!

1. Do you feel that your goal on a job interview is to impress and please the interviewer?

2. Do you pay close to attention to your job interviewer's face so that you can see his or her reactions to everything you say?

3. Do you usually find yourself 'playing a part' on a job interview, as though you were acting in a play or a movie?

4. When you get a "no thank you" message or hear nothing back from an employer after a job interview, do you believe that you've failed?

5. Do you believe that when you don't get a job offer for a job you applied for, that the person who got the job was smarter or better than you are?

6. Do you believe that if you only had more of something [a particular certification, for instance] in your background, weren't so [nervous, shy, etc.] or had a better education, employers would like you better?

7. Do you worry about your credentials -- education, certifications and years of experience - every time you go on a job interview?

8. When you go on a job interview, do you feel that the job interviewer is mighty and you are small?

9. Do you dread going on job interviews because you fear that you might be asked a question you can't answer?

10. Are you ready to take the first job someone offers you just so that you don't have to go to any more interviews?

If you answered Yes to several of these questions, you might be sabotaging your own job search!
