Немного background: CAE - экзамен на уровень С1 Advanced от Cambridge, и в разделе writing вас ждет обязательное эссе в первом задании. Как выглядит его формулировка?
Обычно, тема представляется в контексте некой panel discussion, в ходе которой вы сделали заметки и получили 3 опции. Из них необходимо выбрать две и сказать, почему одна важнее, чем другая.
Посмотрим пример эссе на эту тему:
There is no denying that public funding is crucial for many facilities. However, it seems especially beneficial for museums and sports centres to receive financial support since the former help to educate people, whereas the latter provide necessary conditions for staying physically and mentally healthy. Yet, which one should be given more preference?
One cannot argue that sporting facilities are particularly helpful nowadays since being victims of a sedentary lifestyle many people tend to suffer various health issues, which can be tackled or prevented altogether if people are more physically active. Keeping fit is not only key to a normally-functioning immune system, but can also aid in preventing and managing mental health problems by providing a safer outlet for negative emotions, aggression in particular, and reducing the likelihood of people acting out on impulse in their everyday life. Having said that, most sports amenities such as gyms and sports clubs are successfully funded by the customers, who often pay top dollar and are willing to renew their membership annually to have all the facilities at hand, making the public funding less of a necessity.
In the meantime, the educational value of museums and their long-term impact on the visitors should not be underestimated. Yet, unlike sports centres, museums are a lot less financially stable as they are less likely to charge their visitors substantial entry fees, and even if the visitors get annual museum passes, the profits it might yield are not that significant and are nothing compared to the revenue the gyms and fitness centres get. Moreover, since the museums are not that popular with the public in general, seeking public attention, they offer free admission and rely only on donations, depriving themselves of any viable income and leaving everything to chance, which in the long run can have a detrimental effect on the quality of exhibitions and might reduce educational value. Hence, the importance of funding from the authorities is crystal clear.
In conclusion, although gyms are indispensable in order to stay healthy, they are not in dire need of public funding as they receive enough money by selling memberships. Meanwhile, museums are as valuable to people as they provide educational opportunities, but in contrast with sports facilities they have limited financial resources, thus highlighting the importance of governmental support.

Чего следует избегать (aka potential pitfalls):
1) простых, поверхностных идей. Помните, что С1 = 8.0 в IELTS, и достигается она не только (и не столько) лингвистическими средствами (особенно в CAE, где только 1 критерий отвечает за язык), сколько complexity of ideas;
2) off-topic. Темы идут через призму вопроса в заголовке, то есть не просто спорт хорошо, а музей лучше, а почему именно этим facilities нужен funding.
3) отрицания важности первой опции. По заданию они важны обе, но одна - важнее.
