В этом месяце (а именно 16 мая) я сдавала пробный IELTS на платформе IELTS Progress Check.
Что это за ресурс?
IELTS Progress Check – это официальный ресурс с пробными тестами, ссылку на который дает ielts.org. Тесты платные – каждый стоит 49.95 долларов, и за эту стоимость. Вы получаете оценку по всем 4 аспектам: listening, reading, writing и speaking. Доступны как и academic, так и general тесты, а также 2 версии – timed (с таймером) и untimed (без него).
Я приобретала тест 21 февраля, когда еще можно было оплатить его MasterCard. На данный момент, к сожалению, невозможно proceed to checkout, причем не только с работающим VPN, но и из другой страны (участница моего клуба Stasy Boo Exam Club, находясь в Грузии, столкнулась с той же ошибкой - 403 forbidden). Надеюсь, что это просто глюк сайта.
Anyway, вернемся к procedure. На выполнение теста вам дается 3 месяца после покупки. Так как на момент приобретения я была занята прохождением второго модуля Delta, а потом отдыхом, а потом отпуском, а потом отдыхом от отпуска (ну вы поняли), за тест я села только 16 мая, за 5 дней до expiry date.
Вкратце расскажу о listening, reading и speaking.
Listening
В целом мне показался не очень трудным. По классике, началось с gap fill, при этом темп речи был довольно медленный. Далее, конечно, было сложнее. Я немного отвлеклась во время matching и пару вопросов поставила наугад. Несмотря на мой косяк, за эту секцию я получила 9.0.
Reading
Также не показался сильно сложным. Хорошо запомнился текст о Transatlantic кабеле, который так долго пытались проложить, а также о важной роли насекомых в экосистеме. Также получила 9.0.
Speaking
Вопросы были в записи, и для аутентичности на экране была стоковая картинка некого экзаменатора. В первой части было порядка 12 вопросов, и что интересно, на каждый давался countdown, который показывал, сколько нужно отвечать. Со второй частью мне повезло: describe a person who can sing well or play a musical instrument well. Повезло потому, что мой муж – клавишник (лирическое отступление: я играю наэлектрогитаре, он на клавишах, и познакомились мы с ним 11 лет назад, когда я пришла на прослушивание в группу. С тех пор вместе). Поэтому придумывать мне ничего не пришлось) В третьей части были также вопросы о музыке, важности изучения музыки в школе и не только, и т д.
Writing
А теперь перейдем к письму. Я засекла время, и вышло так, что всю письменную часть я написала за примерно 40 минут (фото таймера прилагаю в галерее). Я этим не кичусь, а хочу показать, что при должном навыке возможно и такое.
После получение результатов я разобрала свой writing со специалистом по оценке IELTS, и мои баллы подтвердились. Я очень рада)

The diagram provides information on the recycling procedures of the disposed of furniture and equipment by a company named HB Office Recycling.
Overall, the outcome of the process depends on the priority the disposable items are assigned.
Firstly, the discharged items are collected from companies' offices and are delivered in a van to the HB Office Recycling office, where the sorting process takes place. The items received are divided into four major categories according to their priority, which ranges from items suitable for further use, refurbishing, recycling and disposal.
Those items that have been classified as priority 1 are handed down to charities, customers or schools as reusable ones. Meanwhile, priority 2 implies that the items have to be remanufactured with the use of either refurbished or new spare parts and eventually can be used by the customers as well. However, priority 3 indicates that the disposed items are stripped off 3 types of materials (plastics, metals and woods), which are then sent to a recycling centre. Non-recycle items, constituting a mere 2% of the bulk, are disposed of by being taken to landfill sites.

Небольшой комментарий по тому, что можно было бы улучшить:
- ambiguity в интро: disposed of furniture and equipment – кем disposed of? Другими компаниями или HB Office Recycling?
- overall – фокус на результате процесса. Специалист спросил, не думала ли я написать linear process, но меня смутило, что он не совсем linear – тут все-таки есть условие
- refurbishing – не совсем precise слово. Возможно, было бы лучше написать which ranges from items suitable for further use, refurbishing and restoration, recycling and disposal.
- handed down to customers – то же замечание. Лучше donated to charities, given to schools or sold to customers
Что касается эссе. Тема была прямо-таки совсем не очень, но выбирать не приходится (это не CPE, все-таки)). Итак:
Music and other art forms are very important for a society.
Why are they important to a society and an individual?
Можно отнести это эссе к типу double question essay, где у нас, по сути, 2 вопроса: почему важно для общества и почему важно для человека.
Мой ответ:
The art of music, as well as other art forms, are indispensable characteristics of each community. I strongly believe that those are of high priority to the members of a society as firstly, they have a historical value, representing in a sincere manner each particular period of the country's history and its shifts; secondly, they allow individuals an opportunity to freely express their discontent with their political system in a way they cannot be silenced even in trying times.
To begin with, art forms, be it music pieces or works of art, are truly indicative of the changes a society was experiencing at a particular moment in the past. The conventions of the composition, the choice of colours, the subject matter are all influenced not only by the way an artist was feeling, but also by the social mores and norms which were standard for that particular period of time. However, being a reflection of each infinitesimal transition happening at a particular moment in the past, any art form helps us trace back and study history without any aberrations. Although historical books and narratives may be altered, the image an artist captured will always reflect the truth.
Secondly, music and other art forms are a tool of expressing one's disagreement with the government's agenda which may not be censored or silenced even in times of crisis. The hardships that people are faced with do not always welcome the public point of view to the extent of banning any attempt at voicing one's concerns. However, with the help of art, an individual can encode their emotions, thus expressing them to the world. These masterpieces, being accessible to the public, carry the voices and opinions, that unlike other forms as outright anger or protest, cannot be frowned upon, muzzled or prohibited.
In conclusion, I assume that music, as well as other arts, are absolutely crucial for both societies and its members as showcasing changes they bear an enormous historical significance, while being vital for individuals to express their dissatisfaction with the policy of the country in an uncensored manner.

- лексика – сразу хочу пояснить, что слова типа infinitesimal и aberrate – это не обязательный критерий 8-ки: от вас будут ждать высокой плотности коллокаций, нежели чем «красивых» слов. У меня мозг переключился в режим «С2» и выдал вот такое, но, опять же, это НЕ обязательно на высокий балл.
- The hardships that people are faced with do not always welcome the public point of view to the extent of banning any attempt at voicing one's concerns. – в этом месте немного теряется по CC, лучше перефразировать болеедоступно.
- an individual can encode their emotions, thus expressing them to the world – в ретроспективе понимаю, чтолучше an individual can express their emotions, thus revealing them to the world. Так было бы больше precision.
- unlike other forms as outright anger or protest – other forms of what? Лучше добавить of expression
- В заключении явно не хватает запятых: In conclusion, I assume that music, as well as other arts, are absolutely crucial for both societies and its members as showcasing changes, they bear an enormous historical significance, while being vital for individuals to express their dissatisfaction with the policy of the country in an uncensored manner.
Сказать, что я рада высоким баллам - ничего не сказать. Гештальт с 6.5 за письмо в 2017 году закрыт). В одной из прошлых статей я показывала свою работу за 2017, и, думаю, вы согласитесь, что разница есть)
Как в целом добиться высоких баллов?
- Расширять кругозор: читать статьи, следить за новостями, так как вам нужно иметь аргументы на большое количество тем. А также и лексику)
- Практика. Чтобы хорошо написать эссе - надо чаще их писать.
- Не верить всему, что пишут в сети: эссе на 9, списки слов, вот это вот все. Отталкивайтесь в первую очередь от критериев и просите вашего преподавателя разъяснить их для вас.
