GeForce is a brand name for NVIDIA's family of graphics processors and motherboard chipsets aimed at the consumer market. GeForce graphics processors are used primarily in video adapters for personal and laptop computers. The 1st generation was released in 1999.
GeForce Now (stylized as GFN) is the brand used by Nvidia for its cloud gaming service.
Founders, Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowski and Curtis Pram, decided to form the company in April 1993 over lunch at Denny's in San Jose, California.
The Nvidia Shield version of GeForce Now, formerly known as Nvidia Grid, launched in beta in 2013, with Nvidia officially unveiling its name on September 30, 2015. The subscription service has given users unlimited access to a library of games hosted on Nvidia servers for the duration of the subscription, delivered to subscribers via video streaming. Some games were also made available under a "buy and play" model. This version was discontinued in 2019 and switched to a newer version of the service that allowed Shield users to play their own games.
In January 2017, Nvidia introduced GeForce Now clients for Windows and Macintosh computers, available in North America and Europe as a free beta.
The service is out of beta and was launched to the general public on February 4, 2020. It is available on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Shield TV and Chromebook devices.
Сons of the service: without a subscription, all games work in sessions of 20 minutes each and this is really not enough to play normally, and entering a new session every time is very inconvenient.
