New models of video cubes for stadiums: what is installed at the largest sports arenas

Оглавление

A sports video cube in the classical sense is a design of 4 LED screens located at right angles to each other. However, such simple models can be found in stadiums less and less. Modern technologies make it possible to design media cubes of much more complex shapes, including those with curved edges, LED rings, transformers, etc.

Design features of LED cubes

The LED media cube is a complex system consisting of many elements. The weight of the LED cube for the stadium is 4-5 tons on average. And individual copies can reach a weight of 10 tons!

Bearing metal structure

The basis of any video cube is a frame on which not only LED modules are attached, but also control equipment, cables, etc. Great attention is paid to the design of metal structures, since the safety of the entire complex will depend on the correct calculations.

The project of a video cube for an ice arena or a football stadium is developed taking into account:

  • the dimensions of the playing field and the height of the roof;
  • the location of the stands and their angle of inclination;
  • bearing capacity of the ceiling;
  • sizes of LED-modules planned for installation;
  • how the media cube is serviced;
  • method of fixing the video cube;
  • the need to lift/lower the structure.

The supporting structure can have any shape: additional edges, sloped edges, a ring, etc. In order to raise/lower the video cube above the site, as well as to move individual screens (in the case of a transformer video cube), the designers provide for the installation of winches. The metal frame can even have several "floors", as, for example, in the case of the video cube installed in the home arena of the Storhamar club - the Hamar Olympic Amphitheater in Norway.

Trend: flowing lines

Strict straight lines are increasingly giving way to complex shaped structures with curves. Cylindrical screens, curved and concave faces of cubes, LED rings - all this is widely used in the implementation of modern GTLight projects.

You can create elements of complex shape, both from standard "rigid" modules, and from flexible ones, if you need to achieve a small bending radius.

Trend: polyhedra

Classic cubes with 4 sides are a rarity in modern stadiums. A sports video cube with 4 main and 4 "auxiliary" faces located at the corners of the structure has already become a traditional model. On the world's ice arenas, you can see cubes with a much larger number of faces. However, it is worth remembering that the rule applies here - the more faces a media cube has, the larger the size of the entire sports arena should be. Otherwise, at least due to the number of screens, the audience coverage will be greater, but the information field for each tribune itself will be smaller.

Trend: transformation

Video cubes that can change shape are still rare, especially for Russian stadiums. But we can safely say that there will be more and more such structures, because they look as impressive as possible for the fans. Retractable screens, layered structures, rotating elements - all this adds to the spectacle.

Mobile parts complicate the design. The number of winches is increasing and the frame design is becoming more complicated. Screens located in different planes are also driven vertically. Moreover, you can even move them independently of each other.

Trend: LED rings

LED rings are a kind of high-resolution running lines. They are installed in the upper and/or lower parts of the video cube. The diameter of the upper ring is always larger than the size of the face of the cube, so that the information on the "line" is visible even to the audience from the first rows, located at the very bottom of the stands. The diameter of the bottom ring may vary. GTLight makes models in which the bottom ring is smaller than, equal to or larger than the cube itself.

Functionality of the LED Sports Cube

The video cube is used to broadcast a wide variety of content. The control system allows you to display not only pre-prepared content, but also make live broadcasts from video cameras. Thus, the media cube at the stadium performs 2 functions at once. You can display ads, information about teams, players, game progress, etc. on it. And also use it as huge TVs, broadcasting what is happening on the ice in real time. This not only adds entertainment, but also increases the loyalty of the fans, because even spectators from the back rows of the stands can see the smallest details of the game.

GTLight LED Cube

One of the company's latest projects is an LED cube in Krasnodar. This is the second video cube for Basket Hall sports centers. The first one has been successfully operating in Kazan since 2020.

The media cube for the Basket Hall in Krasnodar was modernized by GTLight specialists both in terms of design and technology by using the latest models of components.

GTLight video cube features:

  • Gently rounded corners. In contrast to the rectilinear beveled edges of the Kazan model, the video cube in Krasnodar is a single canvas. Due to the absence of sharp drops at the corners of the structure, it is possible to use the screen to demonstrate looped content, and not just individual images / videos on 4 sides.
  • LED ring. Under the cube, a kind of "creeping line" is installed, only with a very high resolution.
  • Winch system. The rise and fall of the LED cube is carried out by 8 powerful winches. Changing the height of the structure allows you to quickly adapt the arena not only for basketball competitions, but also, for example, for boxing.
  • Video processor NovaPro UHD Jr. The model we have chosen (the winner of the oldest European award in the AV industry - AV Awards) allows you to expand the functionality of the equipment, transmit images in high resolution (4K), as well as control screens both via the Web interface and directly.
  • Optical lines. The use of "optics" made it possible to reduce the number of cables and ensure the stability of the equipment in conditions of a considerable distance between the video cube and the operator's station.
  • "Hot standby". Duplication of data transmission lines guarantees stable operation of the equipment even in case of failures. The switching time is less than 0.1 sec, which means that it will not be visually noticeable.
