In order to ensure trouble-free operation of equipment in city streets, as well as the necessary functionality, GTLight specialists created a project that takes into account the operating conditions of the LED portal.
We use outdoor equipment only. A high degree of protection ensures the stability of the portal not only to sudden changes in temperature, but also to dust, precipitation and road chemicals. In addition, each project is implemented taking into account the peculiarities of the local climate. For the northern regions, the LED screen is equipped with a heating system; when installed in the southern cities, air conditioners are installed in the LED cabinets.
LED portals are installed on city streets/squares, people come close to them, so it was necessary to achieve the highest possible image quality. To do this, we use LED modules with the minimum pixel pitch for street models today - 2.5 mm. In combination with a fairly large screen size, the resolution is very high, which means that the picture will be clear, without graininess, even at close range.
Characteristics of LED portals GTLight
Peak brightness is about 4000 cd/m2. For outdoor equipment, modules with higher brightness are usually used. However, in the case of a digital portal, it is not worth chasing the maximum performance. Since the image is perceived from a short distance, high brightness will do a disservice - the screen will blind passers-by. A screen with a small (interior) brightness is also not suitable, because in street conditions the sun's rays will fall on the LED canvas. An indicator of 3000-4000 cd / m2 is optimal. So the picture will be bright enough even on a sunny day, and the eyesight of passers-by will not suffer.
Refresh rate of 3840 Hz or more. A high image refresh rate is essential for picture stability. Objects in the video will not blur even while moving, the image will not flicker and strip.
So that people from different cities can hear the sounds of a strange street and talk to each other, we use directional microphones and professional acoustics. It is also important that there is no “overlapping” and interference when connecting different types of devices into one system.
Modern equipment should be energy efficient. To do this, GTLight LED screens are equipped with brightness sensors. The device reduces the brightness at night and in cloudy weather, when the image is already clearly distinguishable. This allows you to significantly reduce energy costs.
In order for the image to be contrasting and clear, we use modules with special “masks” to assemble LED portals. The deep black color of the protective mask helps to increase contrast by eliminating the glare created by the compound that fills the space between the LEDs to protect them.
Also, the designers of GTLight took care of the protection of LED portals from mechanical impacts. To prevent damage from the hands of vandals or accidental impacts, the surface of the LED canvas is protected by thick armored glass.

LED portal design options
The circle shape is a classic symbol of portals, which is used in world fiction. And now, when fantasy has become a reality, our designers decided to stick to traditional symbols and made the LED portal round. Such a “window” to another city is also practical from the point of view of operation. The absence of corners reduces the risk of accidental injury, and the smooth lines of the upper part of the structure prevent the accumulation of snow and other precipitation.
Another recognizable symbol of interdimensional portals is the door. Opening it, a person sees a completely different city, where there may even be a different season, so the famous “door to summer” has also become a reality thanks to technology. The rectangular shape of the LED canvas also has its advantages. It reduces the cost of the project due to the economical arrangement of LED modules, which also have a rectangular or square shape.
It is possible to manufacture LED screens-portals of any other shape at the request of the customer. GILight designers will develop a visualization with photo reference to a specific installation site. The mounting point itself is determined taking into account many factors. To make the portal look as impressive as possible, and its operation was trouble-free, when developing a project, designers take into account the wind rose, the orientation of the portal to the cardinal points, the location of other buildings, the amount of sun and the presence of shade, communication routes, etc.
