Ма́ленький стари́к
A small old man
(ро́стом 20 - 30 см)
(20 - 30 cm tall)
с хи́трым лицо́м,
with a sly face,
окла́дистой бородо́й
a thick beard
и коготка́ми.
and little claws.
Но́сит краси́вую руба́ху,
He wears a nice shirt,
кафта́н, шарова́ры и ла́пти.
caftan, wide trousers and bast shoes.
Чем ста́рше домово́й,
The older the house spirit,
тем моло́же он вы́глядит,
the younger he looks
так как рожда́ется старико́м,
as he is born an old man
а умира́ет младе́нцем.
and dies an infant.

Superpowers:
Неви́дим,
Invisible,
но де́ти и живо́тные
but children and animals
мо́гут его́ заме́тить,
can spot him,
иногда́ он с ни́ми игра́ет.

Зато́ ду́ха мо́жно услы́шать:
But the spirit can be heard,
обы́чно э́то стук
usually it is knocking
и́ли невня́тное ворча́ние.
or an inarticulate grunt.
Облада́ет огро́мной си́лой -
He has immense strength -
физи́ческой и маги́ческой,
physical and magical -
поэ́тому побежда́ет любу́ю не́чисть.
so he can defeat all kinds of evil.
Но си́ла его́ зави́сит от того́,
But his strength depends on
как отно́сятся к не́му чле́ны семьи́
how his family members treat him
и наско́лько они́ дру́жны
ме́жду собо́й.
and how friendly they are
with each other.
