The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing has officially been completed. The event took place at the national stadium "Bird'sNest".
As part of the event, a colorful show and a parade of athletes took place, where speed skater Olga Fatkulina and hockey player Vadim Shipachev acted as flag bearers from the Russian team. The ceremony was attended by leaders of various states, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, as guests of honor.
The selected athletes, coach and judge from China read out the traditional Olympic oath. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach addressed the Olympians and guests of the competition, who stressed the importance of the Olympic movement for uniting the world. Chinese President Xi Jinping officially declared the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing open, and the Olympic flame was lit at the stadium.
109 sets of medals will be played at the Games. Due to WADA sanctions, Russians will represent the Russian Olympic Committee, and the abbreviation ROC will be used when displaying the nationality of athletes.
The Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will be the 24th in a row. The competitions will be held in the capital of China, as well as partially in the cities of Zhangjiakou and Yanqing until February 20.
