Куджо - огромный добродушный сенбернар

Kujo is a huge, good-natured St. Bernard. ⠀

A few days ago, he chased a rabbit, got stuck in a hole and was bitten by a rabid bat that lived in it. ⠀

This is how Kujo got infected. ⠀

Every day his mind became more and more clouded. Until he killed his master - the owner of a car repair shop on the outskirts of the city.

Donna and Vic Trenton are having a hard time. Their marriage is bursting at the seams, Vic has problems at work, and then Donna's car is constantly breaking down. ⠀

Vic is forced to go on a business trip, and Donna, taking her little son, drives the car for repairs herself. ⠀

Right at the master's house, the car breaks down, and Donna discovers with horror that she cannot get out, because a mad St. Bernard is wandering around. ⠀

There was not a soul around, the workshop was not in demand, it is unlikely that someone will accidentally drop in, there is hellish heat on the street, there is no water, there is no telephone, my husband is on a business trip, no one will look for them. ⠀

How many days can an adult survive in a stuffy car without water? ⠀

And a four-year-old baby? ⠀

What is a mother ready to save her child? ⠀

A life-and-death confrontation begins.

The scenes with Kujo are probably the most emotional. ⠀

It's scary to watch how the animal's brain is gradually destroyed, how common sense is supplanted by a wave of pain and madness, and the once kind dog can no longer control itself. ⠀

Thoughts about murder revolve in his head, he wants to tear, torment, bite. ⠀

But this is not just a story about a dog. ⠀

At the head of everything is the internal tragedy of two families, whose actions or inactions caused what is happening. ⠀

Living each page with the characters, the heart is filled with a sense of fear and helplessness. ⠀

On the one hand, Donna and Vic's fear of losing their marriage and each other, on the other hand, helplessness in the abusive relationship between Charity and Joe Kemberov (the drunken farmer often beat his wife and son). I get goosebumps from their marginal family. ⠀

King is a master at creating an atmosphere of hopelessness. ⠀

As for the finale, I can only say that it is logical and gives the story a realism. ⠀

This work has an adaptation. It's a little crumpled, but also very scary.
