Этот глагол лишён какой-либо эмоциональной окраски. Он не в состоянии передать ни настроение говорящего, ни его интонацию.
Посудите сами:
“I’m leaving you forever”, she said.
“Nooo”, he said.
Если вы будете так писать, то тот, кто прочтёт это, вообще не поймёт, что происходит. Очевидно, она заявляет о своём уходе, а он не может с этим смириться. Но оба героя говорят совершенно безэмоционально!
Исправим же это:
“I’m leaving you forever”, she announced powerfully.
“Nooo”, he cried pathetically.
Теперь читающий может воссоздать трагедию расставания целиком, а мы всего лишь заменили 2 слова!
Теперь вы видите, что то, как герой говорит, ничуть не менее важно, чем что он говорит.
