Oil paint

Oil paint is considered the main universal material for full-color painting. With this paint, the artist can easily change and get any color, for which it is enough to mix the available colors. Most often, oil paints are painted on linen or cotton canvas, or on a wooden panel. Oil paint consists of pigment particles suspended in oil, which forms a dense opaque film when dried.

In the Art-Kvartal online store you can buy oil paints in sets or by the piece, in tubes or jars.

The composition includes vegetable oil from nuts or seeds. Most often this is flax seed oil, but sunflower, safflower, poppy and even walnut oils can also be used. After application, the paint dries slowly, which gives the artist the opportunity to correct the picture and make changes if necessary.

Oil paints are easy to combine with each other, making subtle changes in shades, creating shadows and details. Sometimes they are diluted with turpentine or other liquids. A highly diluted layer dries relatively quickly and leaves no residue after a few days. Thicker coats containing more oil take longer to dry completely. Pigments and fillers also affect drying speed, so paints from different shades and brands may dry at different speeds. In a separate group, white can be distinguished, which are titanium, zinc and lead. For them, such an indicator as a tendency to yellowing is important: zinc yellows less than other varieties due to the coldest pigment.

Prices for oil paints depend on the composition (including the type of oil), light fastness, format (professional, for beginners or amateurs).
