Dear guests, today we are exploring one of the best museums in Moscow - the Moscow City Museum. You can find a lot of interesting exhibits there. After all, there are a lot of archeological finds. Let’s take a closer look at one of them.
Here you can see a large stone tile. This is a tombstone with the name of Caspar von Elferfeldt. It’s in German. It's hard to imagine, but this tombstone dates back to 1571. It was discovered only in 1989, in the oldest cemetery outside the city. At the moment, this is the only medieval tombstone that depicts a portrait of the deceased.
You and I may not know who this person is. However, Elferfeldt is a consultant to Ivan the Terrible on politics in Livonia, diplomatic and religious issues. He died in 1571 while imprisoned. Author article: Polina Buber
