Wire, rope, thread and cable.

What's the difference? Let's figure out. I have decided to make this post in order to highlight the difference between them. (at least in my point of view they have some similarities) Wire (just a wire) is a thin, metal thread, used to fasten things or to make fences, cages, and so on (an electric wire) is a long, thin piece of metal thread, usually covered in plastic, that carries electricity (a barbed wire) is a strong wire with short, sharp points on it to keep people out of a place, Rope (a rope) very thick string made from twisted thread, (wire rope) rope can also be made of metal, in this case we call it "a wire rope" Thread (a thread) is a long, thin piece of cotton, wool, etc that is used with a needle for sewing, be careful! There is a string, it's thicker, we also can put it through the eye of a needle, but we don't use it for sewing Cable (a cable) is a wire covered by plastic that carries electricity, telephone signals, and so on, e.g. a power cable e.g. a phone cable e.

What's the difference? Let's figure out.

I have decided to make this post in order to highlight the difference between them. (at least in my point of view they have some similarities)

Wire

(just a wire) is a thin, metal thread, used to fasten things or to make fences, cages, and so on

(an electric wire) is a long, thin piece of metal thread, usually covered in plastic, that carries electricity

(a barbed wire) is a strong wire with short, sharp points on it to keep people out of a place,

  • e.g. a barbered ware fence - used at war

Rope

(a rope) very thick string made from twisted thread,

  • e.g. ropes are used to keep a ship near a port

(wire rope) rope can also be made of metal, in this case we call it "a wire rope"

Thread

(a thread) is a long, thin piece of cotton, wool, etc that is used with a needle for sewing,

  • e.g. there is a needle and some threads in a box
be careful! There is a string, it's thicker, we also can put it through the eye of a needle, but we don't use it for sewing

Cable

(a cable) is a wire covered by plastic that carries electricity, telephone signals, and so on,

e.g. a power cable

e.g. a phone cable

e.g. cable TV (system)

we also can say that some channels are available on cable, meaning cable TV (the opposite is satellite TV)

Thank you for your interest, mates! See you.
