A history of Christianity for unbelievers

When you talk to god, this is prayer.
When god talks to you, it's schizophrenia.

Around 1500 BC the Jews left Egypt for a walk in the desert and ended up in Palestine. Even though the way from Egypt to Palestine could have been passed faster, they walked in the desert for 40 years according to legend. What motivated such a long walk, we can only guess, perhaps to emphasize how poor and unhappy they were, no one needed, and how hard it was for them. Before a long walk, Moses climbed Mount Sinai, where he talked to god, which was the beginning of the creation of Judaism. Now it is difficult to say whether Moses, like Shakespeare, was a group of authors, or was a real person who dared alone threaten the Egyptian ruler to let the Jews go for a walk, but it is known for sure that Judaism began with Moses. History is silent about what religion the Jews professed before Moses. The main source for studying the ancient history of the Jewish people in the Old Testament (TaNaCh).

A Jew is a nationality.
A Hebrew is a confession of faith.

Judaism is a closed monotheistic religion, only a Jew can become a Hebrew, only those who are born of a Jewish mother become a Jew. An example of another religion closed on a national basis is Hinduism, the national religion in India. Islam and Christianity are also monotheistic religions, they believe in one god, Buddhism is a non-theistic religion - they do not believe in the existence of god.

Upon arrival in Palestine, a long period of internecine wars begins, that is, Jews against Jews. At the turn of the millennium BC, the Israelite kingdom of David emerges. In the 10th century BC, King Solomon built a temple in Jerusalem. After the first destruction of the temple in the 6th century BC, the temple was rebuilt by the joint efforts of the Jews. After the second destruction of the same temple in the 1st century AD, some of the Jews decided that the temple as the centre of religion was some kind of set-up, avoided rebuilding the temple, and created a sect of Christians. Christians took everything they could from Judaism, added to the Old Testament the New Testament - the story of the saviour Jesus Christ, and the Bible came out. In contrast to Judaism, Christianity turned out to be open; a person of any nationality can become a Christian.

Christians from Palestine fled to different countries to lure everyone into their sect. If the Jews spread their religion through ties with the top of society, putting their women under those with more power, and their children were born Jews already in power and converted to Judaism, then Christians began to spread their religion from the bottom. The lowest level of society at that time was slaves, and among them, Christians began to spread their religion. In those days, women and children were almost slaves. Since both women and children are gullible, they also proved to be fertile ground for the spread of Christianity. The scheme turned out to be simple, the wife was lured into a Christian sect, and then she was given the task of luring her husband into the same sect. After the husband was lured into the sect, he freed his slaves, who converted to Christianity, under the pretext that oppressing his Christian brothers was bad manners. Thus, Christianity became widespread in the largest state of that time - the Roman Empire.

Until the 4th century AD, Christians were successfully persecuted by the Roman emperors, because Christians did not recognize the authority of the emperor, but only recognized the authority of god. In the 4th century, representatives of Christians deal with the emperor Constantine, the emperor became the representative of god on earth, and the persecution of Christians stopped. Then Christians suppressed other religions, and Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire. To overshadow the influence of the pagans and strengthen the influence of Christianity, the day of the celebration of the god of the Invincible Sun on December 25 was renamed Christmas, although no one knew when Jesus was born. The week before this day, the pagans praised the god Saturn by celebrating Saturnalia, which was renamed the Christmas holidays for the same reason.

In about 525 AD, the monk Dionysius the Small was commissioned to compile Easter tables for when to celebrate Easter, taking into account the solar and lunar calendars. In those days, the chronology in the Roman Empire was conducted from the first year of the reign of the cruel persecutor of Christians, the Roman emperor Diocletian, and to forget this name, Christians decided to change the chronology. The 247th year of the era of Diocletian was followed by the 532nd year of the era "from the birth of Christ", although, of course, no one knew when Jesus was born, but did it by eye. The beginning of the year was left from January 1, from the day the Roman consuls took office. Over time, this chronology system became standard in the Western world.

When the Roman Empire split into Western and Eastern, Christianity was divided into Catholicism and Orthodoxy, Catholics supported the Western Roman Empire, Orthodox Christians supported the Eastern. Orthodox Christians cross from the right to left with three fingers; Catholics cross from left to right with two folded fingers or the whole palm. Catholics wear a wedding ring on their left hand, Orthodox Christians on their right hand. Catholics and Orthodox have different church calendars. There are other differences, which are called huge, but I do not know about them.

Another major branch of Christianity, Protestantism, split from Catholics due to the Reformation, an anti-Catholic movement in Europe in the 16th century. Then other branches split off from the three main branches, but they didn't get many followers. Today Christianity is the most widespread religion in the world (33% of the world's population). The second-largest world religion is Islam (23% of the world's population). Hindus (14-15%), Buddhists (7%), and followers of traditional religions represent a significant part of the world's population. Atheists, according to various estimates, are 11-16% of the world's population.
