After the first article, dated 1st September, as it was an introductory one about cover versions of the compositions of the legendary group “The Beatles” with a video illustration of a very original blues arrangement from the Brazilian cover group “Blues Beatles”, let's look and listen to how the songs of the “Beatles” are performed by two twin girls with their native German language. Yes. GERMAN. When I was a student at MGIMO, I drew attention to the fact that my classmates who studied German as a "first foreign language" at this University,- these classmates of mine very often spoke English as a second foreign language, not with a Russian, but with a German accent It is noteworthy that I myself speak English very fluently, but also not with a Russian, but with an Indian accent. Yes. I served in India on three long missions for about eight years and I speak Hindi, which was also my “first” foreign language at MGIMO. But English was also my “first” language at the Institute, now called University (I think there were only 5 students like me at my International Law Department there ). But I'm not Indian ! However, I still have my "Indian accent" even after 30 years of my absence from India! I think my Hindustani still dominates over my English
I mean, only those who speak their language since childhood they can speak (and sing) English without an accent. And this is felt by all the performers of cover versions of the English-speaking group - "The Beatles". In my opinion, all Russian performers sing the worst in terms of a noticeable Russian accent. In general, it applies to any speaker of any Slavic language.
Apparently, the vocal apparatus of native English speakers is somehow fixed from childhood and it is almost impossible for foreigners to imitate it.
In other words, there is always an accent problem. And in the songs it is also there. Although the accent in a song is always less noticeable than in a spoken word.
However, let's get back to "our German twins". In fact, they were born in 1994 in Austria, in a small village near Vienna. But their mother tongue is German. Of course, it is with an Austrian accent, which even a native Austrian - Hitler could not get rid of. And the German viewers from the GDR fully appreciated the play of the communist actor Fritz Ditz, who played Hitler in the film epic "Liberation", not only accurately conveying the general image of the prototype, but also masterfully conveying his Austrian accent. That is, even Germans have different accents and different pronunciation of the German language. That fact, however, is a well known one.
However, how did they manage to record already a studio disc at the age of only 14? Moreover, although they lived near the capital of German music - Vienna, but still they lived in a small village ... The answer is simple - their father, Rudolf Wagner, himself was and is a professional musician and has his own home recording studio, and he not only bears the surname of his famous namesake Wagner. (Some argue that almost all Jewish composers in the USSR in the 1930s, as it were, relied on Wagner's musical heritage. Perhaps, in some ways, this statement is true, because the similarity of some Soviet and German marches of the 1930s can be heard well even to a no expert in music. ). In one of the video clips, already of the girls own composition, Rudolf Wagner, clad in a white suit. plays a white grand piano, accompanying his daughters ... He is also the producer of his daughters. In short, an early debut and constant work in the field of music is the Wagner family tradition.
Until the age of 20, the girls lived in their village, and then moved to Liverpool - the city where the Beatles lived and began their careers. There, in Liverpool, the girls either worked for two years, or gave constant live concerts in the famous Cavern Club, where the Beatles began to play. Some of their live concerts have been recorded on video, one of which I am attaching to this text.
My subjective opinion about this cover version of “Please, please, Mr. Postman ” is such - their vocals in this composition are “ not very much to enjoy ”=) But ... they sing so merrily that I want to listen to them again and again. Plus there is an arrangement that the Beatles didn’t have in the original. There is a great drummer solo, and there is a bass guitar solo also that is not in the original. For those who know the original, this is an interesting version of the long ago familiar the Beatles composition. To be honest, I listened to this cover version many times because of the drummer. He "knocks" very well and does it with frank great pleasure. That mood of his is transmitted to the viewer-listener.
