Would you like to work as a volunteer in Africa?

If yes, I can tell you about one project connected to this theme. It is organised by Projects Abroad, the world’s largest provider of international volunteering.

The main idea is to support children in need and work for benefit of local communities. This project is only for teenagers who are 15-18 years old. You'll live in Akuapem Hills, Ghana, and stay with a local host family. The cost is different according to the duration. If you want to go on two weeks, you could start on 20 February, 20 March, 17 or 31 July, and it would cost $2,805. For 3 and 4 weeks start date is only on 17 July, when the prizes are $3,305 and $3,805.

So, what would you do there? Volunteer's main duties include:

  • Help children learn through playing games and running other fun, educational activities
  • Work with other volunteers to make physical improvements at schools and care centres. You can paint classrooms and create colourful educational murals. Or, you can help with building desks or playground equipment. You can also make use of coloured cardboard and crayons to make flashcards, posters, or any other educational materials you can think of.

Also it would expand your horizons. You’ll take a trip to the Cape Coast, with a visit to the old slave fort and the canopy walkway at Kakum National Park and do social or cultural activities together in the evenings, like a cooking class and drumming lesson.

If you want to apply for it, you should visit official page, where you can choose date and duration. Then you just fill in the form and pay a $295 deposit.

This is the last part from review I found there:

"I would recommend this experience without a doubt and to those waiting with anticipation to set off, I say: make the most of it and don’t hold back. Embrace every opportunity you are presented with and, most of all, have a good time! One more piece of advice: keep a diary – you won’t want to forget even the smallest of things."

If you want to read the full review, here it is.

I can give a lot of reasons why I like this project. Of course, the most important is to help children. But also I can learn a lot of new things about different culture and build new relationships with people from different countries.

You may watch the video from one of previous years, if you want.

For now it's all, thanks for reading and bye
