The Japanese sailor is photographed against the backdrop of the Atago heavy cruiser.
“Atago” (after the name of the mountain in the prefecture of Kyoto) is a Japanese heavy cruiser, the first representative of the Takao type to enter service.
Atago was built in Kure in 1927-1932. Actively used in the interwar period, in 1938-1939 there was a major modernization. In 1944, the cruiser died from torpedoes from an American submarine.
