Burning American Wasp aircraft carrier

The American Wasp aircraft carrier (USS Wasp (CV-7)), burning after hitting three torpedoes from the Japanese I-19 submarine east of the Solomon Islands on September 15, 1942.

During the battle for Guadalcanal, Wasp aircraft carrier and Hornet were escorted by convoys with reinforcements for the 1st Marine Division. After the torpedoing, Wasp aircraft carrier was abandoned because of fires. It was impossible to save the ship, and it was flooded with torpedoes by the destroyer Lansdowne.
