Vietnam shares the borders with Laos, Cambodia & China, which allows tourists to enter and exit Vietnam by land border crossing and international airports (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh & Danang).
If you enter from China, Laos & Cambodia through the border crossing, here are the popular borders that most tourists generally across to Vietnam. Public bus tickets or private taxi can be reserved from travel agencies or from the hotels you’re staying.
› Vietnam’s Lao Cai borders with China; if you plan to visit the famous Sapa of Hanoi before continuing your journey to explore Hanoi, Lao Cai border crossing is a great deal and it takes approx 1.3 hrs to Sapa. You can also enter Vietnam through Mong Cai & Huu Nghi from China.
› Vietnam’s Cau Treo borders with Laos; It is not worth border crossing from Laos to Vietnam unless you plan your journey to visit amazing, unique colorful Phong Nha + Paradise Caves in the central Vietnam. Here you can catch a bus from Vientiane to Cau Treo then extend to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park for an overnight nearby for the next day excursion. There are still more borders that you can enter to Vietnam from Laos but not worth at all.
› Cambodia & Vietnam: Ba Vet (Moc Bai) & Prek Chak (Ha Tien) [or Vice Versa] are the most popular border crossings after visiting Vietnam, then by overland to Phnom Penh from Ba Vet which takes around 4 hours or spend several nights for beach leisure in Kep/Kampot if they cross the border from Prek Chak (3 hours from Kep) before continuing to Phnom Penh. Other border crossings: Trapheang Phlong, and Phnom Den. Vinh Xuong Border (Khmer: Kao Orm Samnor) by Speed Boat; you’re able to catch daily speed boat (Blue Cruiser or Hang Chau) from Phnom Penh (6 hours) to the border crossing of Chau Doc if you plan your trip to explore the Mekong Area before you arrive in Ho Chi Minh for your next destination.
