Japanese “Chitose” light aircraft carrier in the sea.
Chitose carrier entered service in 1938 as hydro-transport. After the loss of four aircraft carriers in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, Chitose, along with the same type of Chiyoda, was decided to be rebuilt into light aircraft carriers.
Chitose entered service after re-equipment on January 1, 1944. May 22, 1944 was easily damaged by the impact of two unexploded torpedoes from the American submarine “Bonefish”.

October 25, 1944 during the battle at Cape Engango the Chitose carrier received three direct hits by air bombs and an hour later sank.
