Beat'em up ,what is it ?

Оглавление

What is this-a category where I tell or review a game or a movie.

Beat'em up ("Beat them all") is a genre of computer games in which you need to use hand-to-hand combat to defeat your opponents.

A little history(just a little bit)

-2

The Beat'em up genre was born in Japan in 1976 after the release of the fighting game Heavyweight Champ from SEGA.True, this genre gained popularity after the release of the game Karate Champ (1984) from the company Data East.At the same time, another Beat'em Up Kun-Fu Masters from Irem is coming out, which gave the whole genre of video entertainment a new direction. Then came two more games Bruce Lee and Karateka. In the Renegade game released in 1986 (in Japan — Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun), the plot shifted from the martial arts theme of the first games to street fights. In the American edition of this game, a plot based on revenge against the underworld was added, which caused a much greater response from players than ordinary sports matches under strict rules. Also in Renegade, the player character could move up and down, which became the standard for subsequent games. The game also featured "combo" attacks. Unlike earlier games, in Renegade and Double Dragon, enemies could be significantly more resilient, and to neutralize them, a successful strike was required, while the first strike immobilized the enemy, as a result of which the enemy lost the ability to defend against a successful strike.Capcom's Final Fight was supposed to be a sequel to the Street Fighter game released in 1987 (the working title of which was Street Fighter '89), but the company still decided to give the game a different name. Unlike Renegade and Double Dragon with their simple combo attacks, Final Fight combos were much more dynamic, and their sprites were much larger. In 1990, a more popular game in the CIS, Street of Rage, was released.Although Street of Rage took a lot from Final Fight, but still plays more dynamically than its competitor. Gameplay on the example of Street of Rage 4

Normal punches. On the D button, all characters have an attack animation that stuns the opponent, allowing players to perform combos over the opponent. And the hero hits the S button with a back kick. Plus, a normal attack can be charged(When the attack is charged, your fighter lights up yellow).

Capture. Upon contact with the enemy, the game character begins to capture. When captured, your opponent becomes vulnerable and you can throw him back or throw a few punches and throw him forward. When you discard an enemy, you take no damage and gain invulnerability shots.

Spelas. On the E button, the main characters have special attacks that deal increased damage to opponents. The truth partially takes away your health, but which can be restored. Part of the scale is colored green after using a special attack, which means that you have caused damage to yourself, but which you can restore with a normal attack. Special techniques can be divided into offensive and defensive. Defensive techniques hit in a circle and can cancel the enemy's attack and absorb the enemy projectile. Attacking techniques are often used to complete your combination(But more depends on the selected character)

Kick in the snatch. When you press the forward arrows twice and the normal strike button, the protagonist will make another defensive move and move you forward. But the invulnerability shots are given only at the beginning of the attack and not when moving. And plus, this blow will push the opponent away.

Jump shots. When you press the jump button (SPACE BAR) and then press the hit button(D), the character will make a jump shot.

Ultimate (Or Star Strike). Ultimate is a powerful special technique that deals high damage to enemies. True, star strikes are a limited resource to look for in the levels. To activate the ultimate, you need to hold down the E + W or Tab buttons.

Consumables. Consumables are items that the character uses once. These items include Ultimate charges, HP cooldowns, and extra points.

Weapon. You can pick up and use different weapons. Use the button (E), then use the punch (D) to attack with the weapon. Weapon attacks often increase the range and power of strikes. Keep in mind that guns don't last forever. You can also throw weapons at opponents and catch them back.

Interactive objects. In Street of Rage, there are interactive objects that can be divided into two types. The first type of such objects are destructible with consumables(Barrels , motorcycles, etc.).The second type that deals damage to both you and your opponents(Explosive barrels (they also drop consumables), chandeliers, etc.).

Characters. From the beginning, you will have 4 characters (Cherry Hunter, Floyd Iraya, Blaze Fielding, Axl Stone), but then after a little bit of the story, you will open a character (Adam Hunter). Each character is distinguished not only by their blows, but also by their movement. For example, Cherry Hunter is the only character who can run. Now about each hero in more detail(but not much).

Cherry Hunter(My favorite character). The most mobile character with good damage and, as for me,the best jumps. Cons its survival rate and you need to get close to your opponents. Quite a dynamic character after which everyone else seems to be very slow. This is a new game hero for the Street of Rage series. The usual combination throws opponents to the middle distance. A kick in the snatch gives her extra mobility. Cherry is the only character, as mentioned earlier, who can run.

Adam Hunter. A good character in everything. Good mobility. Good damage. Controls the map pretty well. When you press the jump plus special technique, Adam begins to perform a turntable, which gives him mobility and plus good damage from it. When you press the forward button twice, you can make a streif for a short distance.

Floyd Mariah. The slowest character with disgusting jumps in the game, which compensates with its attack radius. His ultimate hits long range. In my opinion ,it has the strongest grips. Good survival rate. Also a new character for the Street of Rage series.

Axl Stone. The face of the Street of Rage series with average mobility, good jumps, but with good crowd control.

Blaise Fielding. She is similar to Axel Stone , but the jumps are much better. But it has slightly less damage.

Conclusion

Beat'em up is a skill-dependent genre that is easy to understand how to play, but it will take some time to master all the mechanics of this genre. Also, Beat'em up is similar to the game genres of Fighting Games and Slashers.
