Cats and rats
Stray cats had a difficult life. Jimmy lived in a basement of a dilapidated house with his wife and two kids. Jimmy had always been optimistic, but two kittens needed to be fed every day and his wife had been unable to help Jimmy in his search of food recently. She had been sick for 3 days and garbage bins didn’t provide enough food for them. Jimmy had already examined several garbage bins carefully in his neighborhood but it was not his day. Local rats had already taken everything edible out of the bins. Jimmy was desperate! He approached black iron gates of Diksy supermarket hoping to somehow get inside. He knew there was plenty of food inside. If only he knew how to penetrate into the warehouse. He had never practiced stealing food but life was too challenging to hesitate. He had to learn how to steal to be able to survive.
- Don’t even think of getting inside. My bodyguards will kill in a twinkling of an eye! - he heard a strange voice.
Then suddenly Jimmy saw a big fat rat, staring at him. Two even bigger rats were accompanying the fat one.
- My name is Bob, I am a master of the warehouse. There is my food inside the warehouse and I would like you to run away from the place as soon as possible, while I am in a good mood. I’ll give you two minutes!
Jimmy had never run that fast. Nobody was persecuting him fortunately. Bob had other things to take care of. He had to bring elite food to Tom, an old rat, who taught his sons how to properly steal food from people in Diksy supermarket. Stealing was an art, that had to be mastered at a very young age. There was plenty of food in the warehouse, but to be able to steal it, small rats had to learn how to be invisible! They had to learn how to properly understand human language and, of course, they were supposed to be fantastic fighters. Physical training was not a problem and Bob’s bodyguards were able to help out, but other skills could be taught only by old wise Tom, who knew everything and was able to even teach youngsters how to find accommodation in an elite apartment block, located in the vicinity. Bob’s young sons Paul and Danny were good students and soon will be able to inherit Bob’s kingdom and find wives for themselves. But there was competition! Bob had to deal with other greedy rats who wanted to get into his warehouse and kill him! So Bob had to feed fighter rats to provide security for himself and his family. His wife was getting on Bob’s nerves! She always demanded food that was very difficult to get in the supermarket, but Bob loved his wife Emily and would do everything to make her happy. So, he used to take risk!
This stray cat reminded him of another problem! Stray cats were keen on getting his food too. He had to strengthen security. Otherwise, these big monsters might overpower him. There were lots of them in his neighborhood. He should ask Tom for advice.
Bob was thinking of an elite apartment block and the future of his two boys when he saw a girl, who was approaching the garbage bin. She threw a package of waste inside the bin and Bob realized that the cat, whom he had seen some time ago, was rushing towards the garbage bin.
Jimmy had to take risk. He had not been able to find any food in garbage bins close by so, he returned to the warehouse near Diksy supermarket. Bob got furious! He told the cat to vanish into thin air! But here he was again! Looking for food in his elite space, where strangers were not welcome!
- Fred, deal with the stray cat as fast as possible! -ordered Bob, - teach him a lesson.
- Yes, master, give me five minutes, said one of Bob’s bodyguards.
In no time the biggest rat was ready to attack poor Jimmy. Jimmy didn’t even notice how Fred approached him from behind. Jimmy’s life was in danger! Suddenly Fred felt that someone big was coming up to the garbage collector. It was Mary. Mary, the girl, who had thrown the garbage away realized that a big rat was about to attack a small and very thin cat and wanted to help out. Mary threw a big stone in the direction of Fred, the bodyguard rat, who had to retreat and hide. She saved Jimmy’s life but Jimmy didn’t even realize what kind of danger he was in. Jimmy heard a human voice:
- Kitty, kitty, kiss, kiss come here I will feed you!
Jimmy was scared to death! He was afraid of people, they used to beat him quite often. But the girl he saw had very kind eyes and he fell in love with her at first sight.
Mary invited Jimmy inside her apartment and fed him properly there. But how could he explain to the kind girl that his family was waiting him back with food. They were hungry. He started crying because he didn’t know how to speak to people. But the girl was able to listen with her heart and she told him:
- Let’s go! I know where you live, I saw your family the other day. They must be hungry, that is why you are crying!
Mary took a big package of food and accompanied Jimmy to the place where he lived with his family. The kittens were happy when they saw their father and instantly fell in love with Mary. Mary fed them properly and promised to come again the next day.
On the way back close to the gates of Diksy warehouse she saw a big man throwing away a big fat rat in the garbage collector. Bob was too careless that day.
