Hi! Today I am going to share tips on how you can keep going even if you have a high English level. Find the ones you like and follow them to get better results:)
Forget about translated movies and books
When you reach advanced you should stop buying adapted books that are easier for understanding. Just buy a regular book that you would like to read without any adaptation. One more tip is to read books on the topics you are interested in - and more academic topics, not just literature. For example, you are interested in marketing or economics - perfect. One more advantage is that you’ll get is that you will learn new terms and find out about the experience of international companies.
The same thing I can say about the movies. It’s better to diversify your list with some scientific movies or TV shows. Comedies and soap operas are cool but they are not so informative. You should get used to difficult speech and other ways of saying things. Thus you will be able to develop your English skills. Btw, in this article I’ve listed sources where I watch movies in English.
P.S. this tip doesn’t relate to going to cinemas - because it’s a completely different thing:)
Set yourself a challenging goal
It can be passing an international Exam or getting a job offer from an international company. It will be a great challenge and motivation for you.
In my case, it was passing the TOEFL exam and getting enough score to be accepted to a college in the USA or in Canada. I can’t say that it was an easy thing to do or that it was cheap but it was worth it. I’ve increased my level so much only within a couple of months of practicing and preparing. One course helped me to enhance my skills so much.
You can set any other goal that you would like to achieve. But make sure that you will do your best to achieve it and won’t give up after trying one week. (Probably you can buy a course so that you won’t have a chance to postpone or be lazy).
Find a job that will provide an opportunity to use the language
It can be not so easy, but in reality, there are loads of different jobs that require high English level. Although it’s better to make sure that the company really needs your English skills because some employers just write this requirement just to make the job description look better.
A little tip: look for the international companies that have branches in Russia - they often require English skills as well as you might have a chance to talk to the team members from other countries. Moreover, the pandemic and current situation have shown the world that it is possible to work remotely and there is nothing bad in it. Thus some employers started searching for employees who are not located in their country.
Enroll in an international course on the topic you are keen on
In this case, I am not talking about a course on improving your English level. It’s more than that. You can visit any website like Coursera or Udemy and find dozens of courses on various topics like marketing, programming, teaching, informational security, or aaany else. Not only you will improve your English skills but you will also learn how work is done in other countries.
Take lessons with native speakers
This is the last tip for today. You can take lessons with native speakers and you will see the results because you will discuss different stuff. In this case, it’s also better to select certain topics like business or programming, or economics and discuss them - not movies or how things are going.
That’s it for today. I hope you’ve found these tips useful and you will use them. You can ask any questions in the comments. Don’t forget to like the article and subscribe to the channel.
Enjoy English:)
