Shortly before, on July 5, 1942, the K-21 submarine attacked the strongest ship of the German fleet – the battleship Tirpitz. K-21 launched four torpedoes; The submariners did not see the result of the attack, but heard two violent explosions and the commander of the K-21 submarine Nikolai Lunin reported on the torpedoing of the battleship. However, German documents do not confirm that the Tirpitz was damaged that day.
