Lore of the Naga race in the Disciples

Оглавление

From guesses and assumptions of fans to our writer's vision.

A lot of Disciples 2 fans who have heard about the announcement and development of a completely playable Naga faction are haunted by the question: what will these creatures be like?

The first concepts, inspired by the Oriental culture, have long been reconstructed as well as the origin of this mysterious people.

Frequently, under our podcast about development plans, there were comments with assumptions. Some believed the Nagas were merfolk, others thought they were part of the Mortis hordes.

However, neither one nor the other statement is consistent with our idea.

Let's shed some light on the mystery behind their appearance in Nevendaar.

What do we know?

To start with, it is worth noting that the Nagas themselves were not invented from whole cloth. Representatives of this race are present in the game's lore, specifically in Disciples 3: Reincarnation. Let us read their description:

“Nobody knows where they came from. Some believe they are related to the Sea Devils, but no one can vouch for that."

Hereof we can conclude that although they are technically classified as marine inhabitants by the game, in fact, their relationship with the merfolk remains in question.

The description of the Black Naga unit says that they possess "ancient magic". There is no information about the longevity of the same mermaids and tritons. Most likely their life expectancy is slightly more than human.

Nagas were not featured in Sacred Lands and Disciples 2: Rise of the Elves. What can be interpreted as the absence of this race during the events taking place in those parts of the franchise?

Based on all the above, the following statements can be made that do not contradict the lore:

  • Nagas did not meet with representatives of other races until the events of Disciples 3.
  • The relationship between the Nagas and the merfolk has not been confirmed.
  • Nagas are creatures who wield ancient magic, but their nation are relatively young, if we turn to the statement from the first paragraph.

So where did they come from?

According to the lore we created for the campaign of the future add-on, the Nagas are Gallean's creations. As the patron god of the elven race, he has authority over his people. A part of his mind, untouched by madness, set out to restore Soloniel's true form. To bring divine will in execution, Gallean chose a new oracle to perform the transformation ceremony. The elves who followed the seer were transformed as well. Now their objective is to reunite Gellean with his beloved wife in her true form.

Of course, we cannot reveal all the details in this article. The lore of the future race is being prescribed to this day, overgrown with details. We have employed the best screenwriters, who know everything about the world of Disciples. Our task is to make the campaign interesting and non-trivial, while not going beyond the canon, but only carefully expanding them.
